Tips for Making a Good Lifestyle YouTube Videos

There are many ways to create good content for YouTube. In fact, what is “good” in one niche on YouTube may not work in another. It’s always important to tailor your videos to the audience you want to attract.

With that understanding there are some things you can always do to create good videos. Here are a few tips for making successful videos on a lifestyle channel:

    • Brainstorm ideas for content that would be interesting and engaging for your viewers. Keep a list and brainstorm how you can put a spin on the idea.
    • Think about ways to make your videos more interesting and appealing to viewers. Plan ways for your video to be different than all the others you see already on YouTube.
    • Show a little bit of your life in the videos, or share tips on how to live a better life. Audiences love to see your real life and also learn how to improve theirs at the same time. Remember that even when talking about yourself you should be giving the audience something.
    • Be creative and have fun with your videos! Authenticity is important on YouTube and letting yourself have fun is very important.
    • Edit your videos so that they are high quality and polished. You can get away with minimal editing but the standards on YouTube have increased a lot over the years. You can’t have bad audio or visuals in videos so make a plan to improve it by taking a course or watching tutorials.
    • Always be honest in your videos, and don’t try to sell your viewers on something that you don’t believe in. If you don’t use a product, don’t make a video just to cash in. Viewers don’t deserve that and can usually see right through it.

Basically, be honest and have fun! Making lifestyle content on YouTube is really fun and something most content creators enjoy getting to do.

  • Best Bank Account For YouTubers

Are you trying to stay legit with earning income on YouTube? Then you need to open up a business bank account! In this guide to the best bank account for YouTubers we look at my top pick, how to choose the right bank account, and options for YouTube content creators.

Short on time? Let’s look at my pick for the best bank account for YouTubers and then go more in depth.

    Best Bank Account For YouTubers

The best business bank account for YouTube creators is currently Novo. With no minimum balance, reserves for planning, and powerful apps it is the ideal solution for content creators.

Why is Novo my number one choice for YouTubers?

It’s because it’s ideal for starting small as a side hustle or solo business owner but has the flexibility to scale with you as your business grows.

Here are some of the benefits Novo offers:

    • quick and easy account setup
    • can start with just $1 transferred into your account
    • no minimum balance required
    • immediate access to funds
    • reserves in the account for budgeting & sinking funds
    • send and receive payments directly
    • invoicing inside your account

This is all ideal for YouTubers and the reason why Novo tops my list for the best bank account for creators on YouTube. You can see the full list of potential bank accounts further down in this article.

YouTuber ad income into my Novo business bank account

After trying a few different bank accounts as a content creator I’ve decided Novo is the best solution for YouTubers. It’s what I personally use for all on my YouTube income.

Why You Need A Bank Account For YouTube

When you start a YouTube channel you probably aren’t thinking about banking. In fact, it takes a long time to earn money on YouTube for most people.

You’re thinking about video ideas, growth tips, and ways to make money.

Those things are important if you want to grow on YouTube.

But I urger you to also think about your channel as a business. You will make money at some point. And when that time comes you should be ready for it.

You should consider the legal and financial aspects behind your YouTube business from the very beginning.

As soon as possible you need to open up a bank account for your YouTube channel. I recommend doing it immediately so you start out thinking of your channel as a small business not just a hobby.

Why is a business bank account good for YouTubers?

When running a business you should not mix your business and personal finances in your checking account. The IRS frowns on this and wants you to have clear separation. This is why you need to open a new business checking account for your YouTube income.

Your business income and expenses need to be in a separate bank account.

This also makes things much, much easier for YOU!

When you have a separate business checking account it is easier to see if you’re profitable. It’s less confusing when you need your financial statements. It is easier to handle your business accounting and taxes too. Basically, everything will be easier for you when you keep your YouTube finances separate.

What if you aren’t making money on YouTube?

When you start your YouTube channel you might not have a lot of expenses or income for a while.

Since it takes a lot of work to monetize on YouTube you’ll likely not have income for months. But that should not stop you from opening a business account and treating your channel like a business.

Opening up an account at Novo where you can start with $1 or $100 will allow you to start small and grow over time. When you start with $50 you get access to all the extra perks.

When you open an account somewhere that has no minimums you can start with just a small amount from your personal funds. This is generally the best option for new YouTuber creators who want to grow.

What is a business checking account?

If you are new to thinking about YouTube as a business then you might not know anything about business bank accounts.

A business checking account is a checking account dedicated solely to your business: it’s the main place where all your finances go.

You use it to do everything related to your business:

    • receive YouTube ad income
    • receive money from brand sponsorships
    • pay expenses for YouTube software or video equipment
    • withdraw money to pay yourself a paycheck
    • save money for big future expenses like cameras or conferences

You might be asking, how is that different than a personal checking account?

The main difference is purpose. The purpose of the account is different with business bank accounts. Personal checking accounts are not set up for running a business. Some may even have limitations on what you can do with them like limits on incoming or outgoing money.

Another way they differ is the additional perks and features they may have that help you run your business. Novo as an example gives discounts and credits for software that you may want to use in your business.

And finally, since your business bank account you will only handle money for the business, these accounts will make your business legitimate and your accounting very simple. (Novo for instance has added bookkeeping and tax forms to make this even easier.)

Choosing A Bank Account For Your YouTube Business

Choosing a bank account for your YouTube channel can feel overwhelming at first. After all, there are many many options to choose from out there.

There are many different banking features to compare. If it’s your first time opening a bank account for business then you might not know what to look for among your many options.

The first step in choosing a bank account for your business is to understand your needs.

What do you need exactly? Do you desire local branches for in person help? Online apps and tech features? Deciding on your most necessary features will help you make the right choice. You’ll compare that list of your needs with what the different banks are offering.

Here are things to consider when choosing a business bank account:

    Bank Account Costs

Not all business checking account are free. Many actually have high monthly fees or higher balance requirements to bypass those fees.

Free business bank accounts do exist but they may be missing features you find necessary. Or they are monetizing you in a different way. It’s important to look at the monthly fees, transactional fees, and hidden fees to determine how much a business checking account will cost you monthly.

    Monthly Transactions

Business checking accounts also can have limits on the number of transactions you can do per month. It will range depending on which bank account you choose. Transactions may include deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and more so you’ll want to consider how much you will be moving money around.

When choosing the right account for your business you need to learn how many transactions you can make per month without hitting the limit. You’ll also want to understand what happens and what charges will occur if you do hit that limit of transactions.

    Bank Account Balance

Some bank’s require you to have a minimum bank account balance every day in order to avoid fees. Others do not have minimum balance requirements.

Consider whether you want to worry about keeping a certain amount in your bank account or not. Many large banks offering business checking accounts will require a minimum balance while other new options like Novo do not require a minimum balance.

    Location & Convenience

Do you need a bank that is local to you? Some banks may not have branches near you. Others may conduct business entirely online. If you prefer human interaction or convenience of a local branch then you’ll need to consider that when choosing a bank.

If you run an entirely online business around your YouTube channel then you may not care about locations. As long as the bank offers digital support you’ll be happy with any option.

    Tools & Perks

The tools that a business bank account offers can vary but include things like invoicing inside the account or complex integrations to business software. You’ll want to consider any software you use to run your business and if your bank account will easily integrate with that tool.

Another thing some business bank accounts offer is special perks like discounts or credits for a business service like advertising. Depending on the perks offered this could be worth thousands of dollars and something to consider when choosing a bank.

Top Business Bank Accounts For YouTubers

Top Business Bank Accounts For YouTubers

As I said before, I personally use Novo and think it’s a great option for YouTubers. Still not sure if Novo is the right account for you? Totally understandable! It’s the right fit for my YouTube business but it might not fit all creators.

Here are the top business bank accounts for YouTubers:

    Novo Business Checking

Hands down Novo is my preferred bank account for online businesses and it’s the one I personally use. You can read my Novo business banking review here.

It’s ideal for new YouTubers because there is no minimum balance required, has no hidden fees, refunds ATM fees, offers exclusive perks, and more. The website and mobile app make it easy to transfer money and the reserves system makes it simple to budget and save for your business expenses.

    BlueVine Business Checking

BlueVine is a business bank solution that appeals to many sole proprietors with lots of clients. While this is not how an YouTube business operates, BlueVine has a lot of great perks for others too.

There is no minimum deposit, balance requirement, or monthly service fee. You can also access ATMs without additional fees and earn interest on your balances up to $100,000.

    Chase Business Checking

Chase offers business checking for small businesses that can be incredible convenient at higher volumes. If you are already doing a ton of YouTube sponsorship deals and bringing in a lot of income then Chase may be the right fit for you.

This won’t be the right solution for everyone but if you plan to keep at least a $2,000 minimum balance in your account you won’t pay fees but will have access to many features.

    Ally Bank

Ally is a fantastic place to open up a personal checking account. While they don’t offer strictly business bank accounts, you can open an account in your name to separate your YouTube income.

This is not something I recommend usually but it does work for some creators. Since most YouTubers are sole proprietors operating under their own name this is a valid solution until you grow.

    Credit Unions

Another great solution is local credit unions! Some credit unions have amazing business bank accounts. There are often lower fees and free checking options for members.

  • How Much YouTube Paid Me For 2 Million Views

Curious how much YouTube pays in various niches on YouTube? In this video I’m sharing how much YouTube paid me for 2 million views in the DIY niche.

I’m not YouTube Rich yet but YouTube is a fantastic side hustle for anyone that enjoys creating content. Let’s look at how much you could make for millions of views.

How Much YouTube Paid Me For 2 Million Views

I’ve had a lot of my YouTube subscribers ask questions about how YouTube ads work. Hopefully this sheds a little bit of light on how YouTubers generate income with ads on their videos.

The video in question is on my other DIY related channel about how to make paper flowers. The DIY niche pays less per 1,000 views than niches like finance, insurance, or marketing.

How Much YouTube Pays For 1 Million Views

How Much YouTube Pays For 1 Million Views

This video was inspired by Shelby Church’s video about 1 million views which you can watch here.

I made this video because I found Shelby’s and others like it insanely inspirational. They motivated me to realize earning money on Youtube was possible.

Hopefully this can motivate you as well.

Knowing how much YouTube paid me can motivate you to get paid as well.

If you’re a small YouTuber, I hope you realize it’s possible to get millions of views on videos and it’s possible to earn money on this platform. If you’re just curious how much a youtube channel can make or how much a million views pays, that’s in there too.

I also wanted to clear up some things about ad rates and some of the factors that go into different ad rates for channels.

YouTube pays creators a split of the ad revenue on each video.

Ad revenue is determined by factors like:

    • audience location
    • audience interaction with the ad
    • audience demographics
    • CPM
    • number of ads in a video

You can learn about YouTube’s monetization policy and adjust your videos to earn the most possible via ads.

Clearly there are a lot of factors you can’t control and depend entirely on your audience. YouTube makes sure ads are served up that benefit both the viewer. As a creator the main things that you can control is making good content and making sure you turn on a couple ads per video.

There are many, many factors and I didn’t even cover some in the video like number of ads you include in your video!

How to Make Money On YouTube

I’m not a famous YouTuber, but creating videos on YouTube is my job.

I earn a decent middle class income every year now thanks to my YouTube channels. What began as a side hustle to pay off debt truly turned into a career for me. Thanks to YouTube I’m debt free and was able to quit my 9 to 5 job.

I’ve shared a lot of content about earning money on YouTube. Here are some of the best posts about earning on YouTube:

My channels earn money from a variety of sources. How much YouTube paid me via ads is just one income source. All these income streams are driven by videos I made weeks, months, or even years ago.

The income sources for my channel include:

If you’re curious, here is an average income month for my YouTube focused business.

I’ve shared other online income reports on the blog as well so you can always find those and watch how the income grew over time.

The Truth About Making Money On YouTube

Making money on YouTube is not a fast process.

Even after consistently making videos for two years I was only making $400ish a month on ads.

That isn’t to discourage anyone trying to make money on YouTube, but be aware that it isn’t fast and it does involve a lot of work!

It took me another year to multiple that $400 on ads to $4,000 in all revenue streams. Then it took another few months to double that again.

The time and effort put into YouTube is often cumulative. Your videos and skills get better and you learn how to better monetize your videos.

Learning about how to grow on YouTube and improve your monetization is critical to making an actual living!

  • How To File A Copyright Claim On YouTube

If you create YouTube videos, someone is going to steal them and try to pass them off as their own. It’s an unfortunate part of the platform but luckily YouTube gives you a way to stop that theft. This tutorial shows you how to file a copyright claim on YouTube to remove a video you own.

How To File A Copyright Claim On YouTube

This video shows how to file a copyright claim on YouTube when someone steals and uploads your video. This removes the video from YouTube and helps prevent future copies from being uploaded too.

how to remove videos with youtube copyright claim

Here are the steps to file a YouTube copyright claim:

    1. Login in to your YouTube account
    2. Navigate to your YouTube studio dashboard
    3. Click “Copyright” in the left menu
    4. Select “Removal requests” from the top menu
    5. Click “New Removal Request” link at the top right
    6. Click “+ Add A Video” blue button
    7. Fill in the info for your video and the infringing video
    8. Click the “Add to List” button
    9. Fill out the personal information under the “Copyright owner” section
    10. Choose the removal option you want (7 day notice or immediate)
    11. Click the “Prevent copies of these videos from appearing on YouTube going forward” button
    12. Click the checkbox certifying you have the rights to your content
    13. Under the “Legal agreements” section click all the checkboxes
    14. Type in your legal name under signature
    15. Click the blue “Submit” button at the top

That’s it! You can skip the first few steps if YouTube has already found the infringing video through their systems. It will fill in everything under the “Videos requested for removal” section automatically.

removal of video after copyright claim on YouTube

It’s one of the great features on YouTube that actually protects creators and something other platforms don’t currently offer. I hope it helps you!

Why Use The YouTube Copyright Claim Report?

Not sure why you would use this feature to remove videos on YouTube?

This feature is mainly for when channels scrape your videos and re-upload the whole video. They are trying to steal your work and monetize it on their own channel.

It’s not for videos where they are using your content in a fair use way like reacting or promoting it by sharing clips in their own video.

You can use the copyright claim report to prevent channels from stealing and monetizing your content.

The course is the ideal option for anyone doing YouTube on the side with limited time to learn. Since I’ve been a friend and fan of Erika I also happily share her course as an affiliate.

She knows what she is talking about based on experience and helping thousands achieve the same outcome.

Now let’s look at her YouTube growth tips.

Erika Kullberg’s Tips For Gaining 1,000 YouTube Subscribers

Erika shared a list of 13 ways she grew her YouTube channel from 0 to 1,000 subscribers in a YouTube facebook group. She also shared the video on her channel as you can see below.

The video and list below in her own words are full of great advice from a YouTuber who grew from 0 to 1,000 subscribers in just 3 months.

Here are the 13 ways Erika grew from 0 to 1,000 subscribers in her own words:

    1. Consistency – most people will give up before they even hit 1,000.
    2. Consistent upload schedule. I did 1 video a week. Make sure whatever it is, stay consistent.Better to do 1 and increase to 2 than start at 2 per week and decrease to 1
    3. Provide valuable content.Ask yourself, would I like this?
    4. Use consistent and catchy thumbnails and titles. Thumbnails should be recognizable as “yours”.
    5. Write a good description.
    6. Use tags.
    7. Focus on a niche.
    8. Call to action. Ask subscribers to do what you want them to do – like, subscribe, comment.
    9. Respond and interact with every single comment. You’re building a community.
    10. Stay organized.
    11. Use your network–announce on all of your social media platforms.
    12. Comment on others channels within your niche! SINGLE biggest driver. 34% of my channel views comes from other channels.
    13. Study analytics to figure out whats working, what’s not and adjust. When a video does pick up, start creating more in that specific topic.

    Those are fantastic tips!

All of the growth tips are important when gaining subscribers on a new channel. But what really made the difference?

Erika shares her best YouTube subscriber tip for new channels:

“I think it’s really been key to comment on other channels in my niche. I spend a lot of time watching videos in my niche and commenting on them. And I always try to make the comments encouraging, positive, thoughtful (and funny if I can manage). The more likes the comments get, the more it goes to the top of that video, so more viewers see it. Out of curiosity, they’ll then come over to my channel. I know this because traffic on my channel from other channel pages is around 34%.”

As someone that personally found Erika through a YouTube comment I know this method works!

Youtube Growth Tips For Making $100,000

Erika began her YouTube channel with the goal of making $200,000 per year and she was able to make over $100,000 in less than a year.

She freely shares her YouTube growth tips insights on making money within multiple Facebook groups and within her course. She also has a free YouTube guide where you can access all her best tips for growing to $100,000 per year.

Here are Erika’s growth tips for going from 0 subscribers to making over $100,000 on YouTube in less than a year:

    Just Start

“Don’t spend so much time “thinking” about starting. Just start.

I LOVE researching and overanalyzing things (I’m a lawyer so it comes naturally). I personally spent about 2 months ‘preparing’ to launch my channel, but I wish I would’ve just gone for it. And I wanted everything to be perfect, but the reality is, the only way to learn on YouTube is by doing.

All of the training and courses and videos you could watch on ‘how to YouTube’ will never measure up to just starting the channel and learning through trial and error. If you’ve been on the edge, just start – today.”

    Network

“Networking. The power of networking with other YouTube creators, something I didn’t realize would be so important on YouTube. It’s important for a number of reasons.

First, it’s good to surround yourself with people who love YouTube and understand what you’re going through. There are going to be times when you want to quit or need to vent or are disappointed about the slow growth of your channel or a video you poured your heart into being a complete flop, and your YouTube friends will be there to support you. (I’ve had a few times where I just got really hurtful comments on my channel and wanted to give up, and my YouTube friends got me through it).

Join a mastermind if you can – this is how I’ve made most of my YouTube friends. I also just IG DMed huge creators on YouTube and luckily a few responded back, so those have developed into friendships now too. Just always remember to give more than you take.

Second, by networking, you’ll get to compare analytics, and, perhaps more importantly, share information about companies that are looking to sponsor YouTube videos / companies with good affiliate programs, etc. It also helps negotiating (which we’ll cover below) when you understand what others in your niche are making with certain sponsors / affiliates.”

    Affiliate Marketing

“Focus on affiliates before you even get monetized.

The best thing about affiliate marketing (which, funny enough, a year ago I had NO IDEA what affiliate marketing was), is that you can make money from it before you are even monetized on YouTube. Monetization on YouTube requires 4,000 hours of watch time and 1,000 subscribers. Guess what becoming an affiliate typically requires? 0 hours of watch time and 0 subscribers.

The best time to start affiliate marketing is as soon as possible. I mention an affiliate in virtually every video I make. The description of every video of mine contains affiliate links, as do the pinned comments. I just do a quick 10 second mention of the affiliate at the end.”

    Press

“Press. Getting press coverage is important purely from a sponsorship / opportunity angle. I try to get into the press about once or twice a month (Business Insider, CNBC, US News, etc), but have never seen any uptick in subscribers from the posts.

The true hidden benefit: I did, however, get sponsorship opportunities (and interview opportunities) that I don’t believe would have happened had I not had the ‘added credibility’ that press coverage provides. To get press, start off with sites like Qwoted and HelpaReporterOut, then once you’ve been quoted in 1-2 publications, start reaching out directly to journalists and pitching your story (subtly mention in your signature that you’ve been featured in those 1-2 publications).

Keep pitches concise and demonstrate that you actually follow that journalists work and understand what kind of topics they cover/what resonates with their readers.”

    Negotiate

“NEGOTIATE! This is my golden nugget for you today. Prior to founding Plug and Law, I was a corporate lawyer and would negotiate billion-dollar deals. So, I applied that same mentality to negotiating for YouTube.

Understand that you can negotiate everything. For affiliates, you can negotiate payout. There’s one popular affiliate that many personal finance creators promote. I negotiated to get them to pay me double their standard payout amount. By all standards, I shouldn’t have had any leverage to negotiate (I had 1,000 subscribers at the time), but I still tried and was successful.

Same thing goes for sponsorships. Out of all of the sponsorships I’ve gotten, only 1 approached me! The rest I reached out to myself. Don’t have this mentality of “I’m too small” to reach out–that’s definitely not true.

Also, don’t sit around waiting and expecting sponsors to find you. If you want to make money through sponsorships on YouTube, you must be proactive and pitch yourself.

When I pitch, I always pitch asking for 30% more than I actually want. Sometimes they just agree to the rate (which was 30% more than I wanted). If you are able to, don’t be afraid to “walk away” from a deal. Twice I couldn’t get a sponsor to agree to my rate because they said it was out of their budget, so I said “I appreciate it, but out of respect for my other sponsors I don’t have much flexibility on this rate – would you be able to speak to your team again and mention [insert some cool metrics or information about your channel that would persuade them] to see if they might still be interested?” Both times, they came back within a few days and agreed to my rate.

Also, this goes back to the point above about the value of networking. If you can, talk to your YouTube friends about what sponsors are paying them. Once, I had a company reach out to me and offer half the amount that they offered my male friend with a smaller channel. Because my male friend shared his rate with me, I knew I wouldn’t accept anything less. Sure enough, they doubled their offer for me after I refused their initial offer.

Like any negotiation, the more information you have, the better equipped to understand the leverage you have in the negotiation.”

    Mistakes To Avoid

“Mistakes I made: I made 2 big missteps my first year.

First mistake – when my channel first went viral, I didn’t take full advantage of the momentum. I wish I would’ve created at least 5 videos per week on the same topic while my channel was being blessed by the YouTube algorithm powers.

Second mistake – after my channel went viral, I switched from doing evergreen content to trendy content only. I wish I would’ve continued to do a mix of both. The lifespan of the trendy content (stimulus) that I cover on my channel is about 2-3 days, meaning my ad revenue drops down to almost $0 when I’m not doing a video.

The benefit of having evergreen content is that evergreen is truly passive – you can make money on those videos for years to come. Trendy videos, as I’ve learned, are far from passive – I essentially can expect to make about $200-500 in ad revenue for each trendy video in the first 2 days, then it drops to $0. With trendy, you’re trading time for money. With evergreen, it may be slower to build up the growth and momentum, but once you build it, it’s pretty close to passive income (as close as you can get on YouTube).”

    Revenue Sources

“Revenue: My YouTube income comes from 3 sources:

    1. YouTube Ad Revenue
    2. Affiliates
    3. Sponsorships

As mentioned, I’ve made over $100k in under a year from these 3 sources on YouTube. I think I should also mention that I didn’t even get monetized until April 28th, so even though I’ve had the channel for almost a year, the bulk came in the last 5 months.

Just to give you an idea – every month, YouTube ad revenue has accounted for less than half of my total YouTube income. I share that to reinforce the importance of sponsorships and affiliates.

There are also other income streams you should consider (merchandise, patreon, your own digital products, etc).”

    Video Creation Tips

Now that we have shared some ideas for vlog topics, we want to give you some general tips to help you create high-quality content for your YouTube channel.

By following these tips, you can produce engaging and entertaining videos that your viewers will love!

Invest in a good quality camera.

You need a decent quality camera for YouTube but this doesn’t mean that you need to buy the most expensive DSLR on the market.

Many smartphones now have excellent cameras that are perfect for vlogging. Just make sure to stabilize your phone when filming.

I personally use the Canon M50 which you can see in my YouTube studio and desk tour.

While you don’t need to invest thousands, it is important to invest in a camera that will allow you to film high-quality videos.

    Use good lighting.

Whenever possible, try to film your videos in natural light when vlogging or with good lights if not. This will help your video look more polished and professional.

If you’re filming indoors, there are many decent quality lights you can purchase on Amazon to light yourself. Even a $25 ring light makes a huge difference!

Edit your videos… especially the sound!

Don’t be afraid to spend some time editing your videos before you upload them to YouTube.

This will help you get rid of any awkward pauses or bloopers. And it will also allow you to add captions, music, and other effects that can make your video more engaging.

Most importantly? Editing allows you to fix any sound issues. Using a good microphone and then fixing any sound issues in post production makes some vlogs stand above others.

No one wants to watch videos with bad sound.

    Be yourself!

One of the best things about vlogging is that it allows you to show your personality to the world. YouTube video production quality may have risen in recent years but it’s still all about being YOU.

Don’t be afraid to be yourself on camera. Be authentic and genuine, and your viewers will appreciate it.

    How to Make Money Vlogging

Vlogging can be a great way to make money. But it takes time and effort to build up a large enough audience to start earning an income from your videos. Here are a few tips to help you get started:

    1. Become A YouTube Partner

In the YouTube partner program you can monetize your videos with ads from Adsense.

Adsense is the program run by Google that allows you to place ads on your videos. When viewers watch or click on these ads, you will earn money. This is one of the easiest ways to make money via YouTube.

    2. Become An Affiliate

No matter what YouTube niche you are in there are products you can promote as an affiliate.

Many companies offer affiliate programs that allow you to promote their products in your videos. If someone purchases a product through your affiliate link, you will earn a commission.

    3. Sell Products

If you have your own products, such as e-books or courses, you can sell these through your YouTube channel. This is a great way to make money if you have a niche audience.

You can also sell products like merch if you have a channel with a large or committed audience.

    4. Offer Consulting Services

If you’re an expert in a particular field, you can offer your services as a consultant. This could include coaching, mentoring, or providing advice on a specific topic.

As an example, a channel about food could offer meal planning services or a channel about growing a business could offer 1-on-1 business coaching.

    5. Collaborate With Brands

Many YouTubers earn the majority of their income through sponsorships with brands.

You can collaborate with brands by creating sponsored videos or product reviews. This is a great way to earn money if you have an engaged audience.

Related: How to Get Free Products to Review on YouTube

By following these tips, you can start making money from your vlogging channel.

Just remember that it takes time and effort to build up an audience and start earning an income.

I earned nothing for six months when I started on YouTube but I now earn more than I did at my day job! YouTube can become a full time job where you earn a significant amount of money.

Don’t give up if you don’t see results right away!

One of the first milestones of growing your YouTube channel is receiving free products from companies. This can even be done when you are a brand new YouTuber with ZERO subscribers. Not sure how? Keep reading to learn how to get free products to review on YouTube.

Now we will go in depth on getting free products for review.

Whether you already have a large audience or are just getting started, you’ll learn how to:

    • get free products from brands to review on YouTube
    • how to reach out to brands you want to work with
    • where to find free product review deals

Let’s look at how to start and grow your product reviews.

How Do YouTubers Get Free Stuff?

So, how do YouTubers actually get free stuff to use on their channels?

Does it come from the brands? From PR companies? From connections made at conferences? Or from outreach by the YouTuber?

It can come from all of these and other sources!

Typically brands will send free products to YouTubers hoping to get included in videos. Sometimes a PR company will handle the communication and send the product to the YouTube creator.

Brand new YouTubers will usually receive free products based on their own outreach. This can happen in person at conferences or via email by reaching out to brands they want to work with.

Sometimes this will also include compensation for the YouTuber, but often it is only free products for smaller creators.

This guide to getting products for review will not cover the aspects of paid brand deals but instead focus just on how to get free products.

How To Get Free Products To Review On YouTube

How To Get Free Products To Review On YouTube

Reaching out to brands is the easiest way to get free products to review. But how do you reach out to brands you want to work with?

When you are a new content creator this may seem intimidating, but the process is actually quite easy.

    Getting Free Products

Here’s how to get free stuff to review on your channel:

    1. Make a list of companies that work with YouTubers
    2. Find the company contact information online
    3. Write an outreach message to the company
    4. Send a follow-up email
    5. Receive free products and create reviews

This is the process of getting free products. While it’s simple work it can be very time consuming in the beginning and you will receive some rejections.

You will need to reach out to many different companies in order to get free products to use in your videos. Remember that it might not be the right time or fit for brands but any contact you make is getting your channel on their radar.

    Sharing Review Videos

Here’s what to do after you’ve received free products and created the video:

    1. Inform the company when the video is done
    2. Promote the video to gain as many views as possible

Generally you will want to reach out to the company and get their approval before sharing your video. Sometimes this is required by companies so you’ll need to make sure to follow any guidelines you were given.

Once the video is approved you should publish it and gain as many views as possible. Take some time to make sure the video does well on your channel.

This will look positive for any future brands you want to work with so take time to make it happen!

What If You Can’t Get Free Products?

Maybe you’ve reached out to companies and only received rejection emails. Maybe you can’t get the products you want.

Unfortunately, sometimes this happens. What do you do if you can’t get free products to review?

In this case, you might need to start with what you have.

This means you’ll use the items you already own to create reviews.

Take an item you already own and use it in a video. Create a great review or include it in a video by using it with other items. Publish the video and promote it to start gaining views.

While you promote the review video you can also tag the company that produces that product. Tagging the company on social media creates a link that didn’t previously exist and gets you on their radar. Sometimes this is the first step to building a relationship that provides you with free products in the future.

    Shouldn’t You Be Getting Paid?

Many YouTubers have to find the balance between getting paid for their work versus receiving free products.

Obviously you want to be paid for your work!

However, sometimes being gifted products is the first step to getting paid.

    Building Relationships

When you don’t have a large audience receiving a free product is the first step to building a relationship with a brand.

This is something that can grow on both sides as your audience grows and develops. This often leads to future paid campaigns when you have a larger reach.

    Affiliate Marketing

Another option to get paid when you are a smaller channel is to work for the company as an affiliate. This means you will get paid a commission every time you refer a sale by promoting the product.

This is the easiest way to get paid when you are a new creator that can’t get big sponsorship deals based on audience size.

Not sure how to go about doing affiliate marketing? Check out these in depth guides:

    TubeBuddy vs VidIQ FAQs

Since I’m a professional YouTube content creator I do get a lot of questions about the YouTube tools I use. Here are some of the more common questions I get about TubeBuddy vs VidIQ.

    Is TubeBuddy better than VidIQ?

Overall, both tools (VidIQ vs. Tubebuddy) are powerful tools for YouTube videos and can be utilized to grow your channel.

The most significant distinction between the two is that VidIQ provides a broader range of tools for video research, management, and optimization, which might be off-putting to people who are unfamiliar with these metrics.

Are TubeBuddy and VidIQ the same?

No, they are not the same, but both tools are very useful and have different benefits.

The primary distinction between the two is that VidIQ makes use of historical data from competitors, whereas TubeBuddy’s tool shows current video search results.

This indicates that if another user has recently published a video with the same name as yours, Tubebuddy will display it in your result, but VidIQ will not.

Can you use TubeBuddy and VidIQ?

Is it possible to use both VidIQ and TubeBuddy at the same time? Of course, you can, but it may be a bit overwhelming and fill up the interface with clutter. Usually, less is more when it comes to tools.

However, both platforms allow you to adjust which features are available so you can customize it to what works for you. You can adjust your TubeBuddy features through your account settings and your VidIQ features via your Chrome Extension settings.

    Is VidIQ worth the money?

This depends on your own needs and individual budget. However, VidIQ is a genuine and useful tool that gives you real YouTube metrics and data, such as keyword volume, popular videos, rivals’ VPH, tag suggestions, and more.

VidIQ also has a basic free plan that allows you to try before buying. Then the next step up on their plan tier is only $7.50 per month. So if this tool helps you to gain more traffic to your videos and start earning money, it will eventually pay for itself.

    Which VidIQ plan is best?

Choosing the right VidIQ plan will just depend on the features that you think will work the best for you and your YouTube Channel.

With the VidIQ free plan, you have a great way to get started and try out their service. The Pro and Boost plans contain progressively more comprehensive analytical methods for tracking more trends and rivals, obtaining additional keyword suggestions, and so on.

    Which tool do you use?

Personally I’ve used TubeBuddy the most during my YouTube career. I’ve found it to offer the majority of the tools I need and the direct integration into my account provides everything I need.

I’ve also started using VidIQ in 2022 to explore the different tools available. So far I’ve enjoyed it but most of my channel growth came while I was using TubeBuddy.

So, if you want to have. a better idea of how the features work, download VidIQ for free and give it a try.

TubeBuddy and VidIQ – Which is Better?

Overall, both TubeBuddy and VidIQ are great tools for YouTube content creators. They provide a range of features that can help you to maximize your videos’ organic reach, beat the competition, and more. However, VidIQ offers a broader range of tools, which might be off-putting to people who are unfamiliar with these metrics.

Additionally, VidIQ has a basic free plan that allows you to try before you buy. So if this tool helps you to gain more traffic to your videos and start earning money, it will eventually pay for itself.

If you are unsure of which tool will work best for you, I highly suggest trying out each for at least one month in order to see which you prefer.

The most important thing is to keep creating great content that your audience will love, and the rest will follow!

  • YouTube Automation: Scam Or Cash Cow Business?

Have you heard of YouTube cash cow channels or YouTube automation? It’s one of those things that sounds too good to be true: completely passive income from YouTube month after month.

Let’s look at what YouTube actually means and whether it’s a business worth pursuing… or a huge scam.

    What Is YouTube Automation?

YouTube automation most often refers to a YouTube channel that’s completely outsourced.

You pay creative people to script, edit, and publish YouTube videos on a channel that you own. Then you sit back and collect the income from that channel as the videos earn money every month.

Many YouTube creators hire freelancers to help produce content. In fact, I’m a full time YouTube creator who pays editors to help me most months. There is nothing unusual about hiring professionals to help produce content on YouTube.

YouTube automation takes that a step further. You hire freelancers to create every part of your video.

You are not on screen or even involved in the video at all. The team (or individual) you hire does it all for you with your direction.

The goal of YouTube Automation is to creative a monthly passive income stream from YouTube after you’ve invested in the content creation.

    Is YouTube Automation A Scam?

In theory, YouTube automation is a business model that can and does work.

You can hire freelancers to create every part of a video for YouTube.

The dream of completely passive income from YouTube automation is a bit more complicated however.

Many of the “gurus” selling courses on how to create cash cow channels are selling a dream that feels much more like a scam.

Why does it feel so scammy?

It feels like a scam because creating YouTube content that earns money is difficult!

Beginners who’ve never created videos are very unlikely to put together a team that creates content worth watching. If your videos aren’t amazing they won’t get views and you won’t earn money.

The poorly paid freelancers you hire when you’re starting out also will need a lot of direction. Undoubtedly without your valid input you’ll be wasting money on hiring people.

Many YouTube automation articles and courses sell the dream but it’s much more complicated to put into practice. These courses are selling a dream of passive income without being realistic about the effort involved.

For veteran video creators this is a valid business model but finding reliable and professional freelancers is difficult. Directing content that’s worth views is difficult even with a good team. Like any online business method this is not a quick or easy method to earn passive income.

    YouTube Automation Steps

Still interested in using this model to create income from YouTube? Let’s look at how to put YouTube automation into practice.

Here are the steps to creating a cash cow style channel with YouTube Automation:

    1. Choose a niche for your videos.
    2. Pick one of the higher paying or higher view niches.
    3. Find freelancers onsites like Fiverr or Online Jobs PH for the following steps
    4. Hire someone to create video ideas or do keyword research
    5. Pick someone to write a script for your video
    6. Hire someone to record the voiceover or on camera speaking
    7. Choose an editor to put together free or paid video clips and effects
    8. Hire a freelancers to upload and optimize your video
    9. Bonus: hire someone to promote your videos off YouTube too

That’s it! You can hire as many freelancers as needed to hit all of these elements of a YouTube video.

You can see how this could get difficult since multiple people will be working on one video. Sometimes you can usually find people to do more than one step. Often the best freelancers are ones that specialize in one thing only.

If someone promises to do it all you will have to wonder why they aren’t doing it for their own channel.

In addition to the actual video creation you’ll need to either manage these freelancers or hire someone to manage them. Making sure you have a strong workflow and resolve any issues they have will be an important part of the business. If you can find someone you trust to manage this process you can continue to stand back and consider it “automated”.

There are other methods of YouTube automation where you can use technology to put together scraped videos. This method can be complicated for beginners and is not the method most commonly discussed under this term.

For an example using python to accomplish an automated channel you can read this article.

How to Make Money With YouTube Automation

Making money with YouTube automation is the same as any creator making money on YouTube.

There are 5 main ways most YouTubers make money:

    1. Ad revenue
    2. Affiliate marketing
    3. Brand deals: Sponsored videos / Partnerships
    4. Community: Memberships / Patreon
    5. Sales: Product sales / merch

With YouTube automation the emphasis is often on earning money just via ads. This means you’ll focus on getting as many views as possible to earn the most passive form on income (ads).

In order to make more on YouTube from ads you need to get more people to watch more ads. It’s really that simple.

Here are a few ways to make money with ads on YouTube:

    • Choose a niche that earns decent money from ads (check out Most Profitable Niches On YouTube)
    • Add more ads to your videos including before the video, after the video and mid-roll ads.
    • Create longer videos so you can get to the 10 minute mark which enables mid-roll ads.
    • Make your content binge worthy so the viewer goes from one video to the next.
    • Create evergreen content that people will be able to watch again and again or find useful any time they find it in the future.
    • Make videos on popular or trending topics to ride waves of interest and large viewership increases.
    • Finally, make good videos people want to watch!

Those are a few of the best tips for growing your ad revenue on YouTube!

    How Does This Method Fail?

There are many, many ways for channels to fail while implementing YouTube automation.

Here are some of the ways I’ve seen people fail while attempting this business model.

    • Failure to hit monetization requirements. You need 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours to earn money via ads. Many people give up before hitting this.
    • Inability to manage a team of freelancers. Using multiple people to create work is difficult and requires a project manager. Most people struggle with managing this effectively.
    • Poor quality work produced on the cheap. It’s tempting to hire the cheapest possible freelancer but this leads to poor quality videos that no one watches.

Any and all of these failure points are ways this method falls apart for people.

While it’s not technically a scam, this method of earning money on YouTube is much more difficult than you would expect!

    Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the common questions I’ve seen about YouTube automation.

What is the meaning of YouTube automation?

YouTube automation is where you outsource the entire creation of YouTube videos to put on your channel. You earn money from the videos getting views on those videos without doing any of the work.

What else is YouTube automation called?

Something this method is also talked about as cash cow channels, YTA, copy and paste, and more.

How do you automate a YouTube channel?

You can automate your YouTube channel by planning out a video content creation plan. You choose topics in your niche and then hire freelancers to create the actual videos.

Where can you hire freelancers to YouTube videos?

You can hire freelancers for YouTube videos in a number of places:

Is it hard to make money on YouTube with automation?

Honestly, it’s hard to make money on YouTube at all!

This is a valid way to earn income online and many of us make a full time living on YouTube. But it took me a couple years and lots of work to earn enough money on YouTube to live on.

Most creators give up early on because it’s difficult to earn sustainable money on YouTube.
