    Video Creation Tips

Now that we have shared some ideas for vlog topics, we want to give you some general tips to help you create high-quality content for your YouTube channel.

By following these tips, you can produce engaging and entertaining videos that your viewers will love!

Invest in a good quality camera.

You need a decent quality camera for YouTube but this doesn’t mean that you need to buy the most expensive DSLR on the market.

Many smartphones now have excellent cameras that are perfect for vlogging. Just make sure to stabilize your phone when filming.

I personally use the Canon M50 which you can see in my YouTube studio and desk tour.

While you don’t need to invest thousands, it is important to invest in a camera that will allow you to film high-quality videos.

    Use good lighting.

Whenever possible, try to film your videos in natural light when vlogging or with good lights if not. This will help your video look more polished and professional.

If you’re filming indoors, there are many decent quality lights you can purchase on Amazon to light yourself. Even a $25 ring light makes a huge difference!

Edit your videos… especially the sound!

Don’t be afraid to spend some time editing your videos before you upload them to YouTube.

This will help you get rid of any awkward pauses or bloopers. And it will also allow you to add captions, music, and other effects that can make your video more engaging.

Most importantly? Editing allows you to fix any sound issues. Using a good microphone and then fixing any sound issues in post production makes some vlogs stand above others.

No one wants to watch videos with bad sound.

    Be yourself!

One of the best things about vlogging is that it allows you to show your personality to the world. YouTube video production quality may have risen in recent years but it’s still all about being YOU.

Don’t be afraid to be yourself on camera. Be authentic and genuine, and your viewers will appreciate it.

    How to Make Money Vlogging

Vlogging can be a great way to make money. But it takes time and effort to build up a large enough audience to start earning an income from your videos. Here are a few tips to help you get started:

    1. Become A YouTube Partner

In the YouTube partner program you can monetize your videos with ads from Adsense.

Adsense is the program run by Google that allows you to place ads on your videos. When viewers watch or click on these ads, you will earn money. This is one of the easiest ways to make money via YouTube.

    2. Become An Affiliate

No matter what YouTube niche you are in there are products you can promote as an affiliate.

Many companies offer affiliate programs that allow you to promote their products in your videos. If someone purchases a product through your affiliate link, you will earn a commission.

    3. Sell Products

If you have your own products, such as e-books or courses, you can sell these through your YouTube channel. This is a great way to make money if you have a niche audience.

You can also sell products like merch if you have a channel with a large or committed audience.

    4. Offer Consulting Services

If you’re an expert in a particular field, you can offer your services as a consultant. This could include coaching, mentoring, or providing advice on a specific topic.

As an example, a channel about food could offer meal planning services or a channel about growing a business could offer 1-on-1 business coaching.

    5. Collaborate With Brands

Many YouTubers earn the majority of their income through sponsorships with brands.

You can collaborate with brands by creating sponsored videos or product reviews. This is a great way to earn money if you have an engaged audience.

By following these tips, you can start making money from your vlogging channel.

Just remember that it takes time and effort to build up an audience and start earning an income.

I earned nothing for six months when I started on YouTube but I now earn more than I did at my day job! YouTube can become a full time job where you earn a significant amount of money.

Don’t give up if you don’t see results right away!

  • How Much Money Can You Make on Etsy?

When it comes to making money online, there are a lot of different business models from content creation to e-commerce. Selling on Etsy is great online business model for beginners that can also lead to huge success. In this post we will be answering one of the most common questions I get from new sellers: how much money can you make on Etsy… really?

Etsy Incomes: How Much Money Can You Make on Etsy?

In this article, we’ll take a look at how much money people typically make in their first year of selling on Etsy, as well as some of the pros and cons of selling on the platform.

By the end, you should have a good idea of whether or not Etsy is right for you!

    What Is Etsy?

If you’re looking to start selling your products online, you may be wondering: is Etsy the right platform for me? What is Etsy and what benefits does it offer sellers?

Etsy is an online marketplace that specializes in selling handmade, vintage, digital and unique items.

It’s a popular platform for people who make their own products, as well as for people who sell vintage finds or antiques.

Since it launched in 2005, Etsy has become a go-to platform for people looking to start their own creative businesses. In fact, there are currently over 4 million active sellers on the site and even more buyers!

    How Does Etsy Work?

If you’re thinking about selling on Etsy, it’s important to understand how the platform works. When you set up an Etsy shop, you’ll create listings for your products.

Each listing will include a product photo, description, price, and shipping information. When a customer finds a listing they’re interested in and makes a purchase, you’ll receive an email notification from Etsy.

You’ll then package and ship the item to the customer’s address. Once the buyer receives their purchase and is happy with it, they’ll leave a review on your listing.

It’s also important to note that Etsy charges fees for every transaction that takes place on the site. For example, there is a $0.20 fee for each listing that you create and a 6.5% transaction fee for each item that you sell.

Additionally, if you use Etsy Payments to process credit card payments, there is a 3% + $0.25 fee for each transaction.

How Much Money Can You Make on Etsy?

Now that we’ve gone over the basics of how Etsy works, let’s talk about how much money you can make by selling on the platform.

The amount of money you can make on Etsy will depend on a few different factors:

    • the price of your products
    • expenses to create your products
    • the number of items you sell
    • the fees associated with each transaction

The amount of money you can make on Etsy will vary widely depending on your niche and these factors.

Let’s take a look at some real-life examples to give you an idea of how much money people typically make in their first year of selling on Etsy. You probably want to know: how much does the average Etsy seller make?

According to this article from Sale Samurai, the average successful Etsy seller brings in between $43,000 and $46,000 in their first year, while top sellers can make over $65,000!

Of course, it’s important to keep in mind that these are just averages. Some people make less money, while others make much more.

There are some sellers who make almost a million dollars a year selling on Etsy. There are also many, many more that make less than $10,000. Personally, selling on Etsy I only made $5,400 that first year!

In general, a good estimate is that you can comfortable make anywhere between $5,000 and $50,000 in your first year selling on Etsy.

    Etsy Seller Income Examples

Let’s look at some specific examples of how much Etsy sellers have made on the platform.

These Etsy sellers have shared how much they make on Etsy but remember they are at varying levels of knowledge and success.

    • My Wealth Diary sells on Etsy and reports her earnings as $4,000 her first year, $75,600 her second year, and $83,600 the next year from selling digital products.
    • Etsy Seller Liberty Island Farm reported earning $53,526.29 in her first year with a profit of $37,000 before taxes.
    • Jenni at Fuzzy and Birch’s story includes making -$37 her first month and working up to consistent $4,000 per month selling on Etsy.
    • Jamie shared a blog post that her shop Handmade Journey made $53,000 in her first year with a profit margin of 70%.
    • Erin of Urban Wood Goods had a revenue of $35,000 her first year and $635,000 her second year, the majority of it from Etsy she told HuffPost.

These Etsy income examples show you how much you could potentially make by selling products on Etsy.

How Much Can You Make on Etsy a Month?

The amount of money you can make on Etsy in a month will depend on the same factors as your annual earnings.

To get an idea of how much money people typically make in a month, let’s take a look at the average annual salary example above and break it down.

If we assume that the average Etsy seller brings in $45,000 in their first year, that means they’re making around $3,750 per month.

But, of course, this is just an estimate. Some people make more, while others make less.

It is also important to keep in mind that not all months are created equal when it comes to sales. For example, you may find that you sell more items during the holiday season than at any other time of year.

How Much Money Can You Make on Etsy in a Day?

The amount of money you can make on Etsy in a day will also depend on the same factors as your annual and monthly earnings.

Let’s again take the average annual salary example above and break it down to get an idea of how much money people typically make in a day.

If we assume that the average Etsy seller brings in $45,000 in their first year, that means they’re making around $125 per day.

Is It Easy to Sell on Etsy?

Selling on Etsy is relatively easy to get started, and the platform is user-friendly.

However, it can be tough to stand out from the crowd and make a consistent profit, especially if you’re selling low-priced items.

If you’re thinking about selling on Etsy, be sure to do your research and create unique, high-quality listings.

You’ll also need to be prepared to put in some time and effort into promoting your shop and marketing your products.

Not only will you need to be creative and product good products, but you’ll need to make sure you handle all the legal aspects of selling items. This will include things like choosing a bank account for your Etsy shop, creating legal policies, and other related tasks.

How To Make 6 Figures on Etsy

It is possible to make six figures on Etsy, but it isn’t easy.

If it was, every Etsy seller would be consistently making six figures per year.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as the amount of money you can make on Etsy will depend on a number of factors, from the types of products you’re selling, your pricing strategy, and your marketing efforts.

That being said, if you want to make six figures on Etsy, you’ll need to focus on selling high-priced items and attracting a steady stream of customers to your shop.

To hit the $100,000 mark in revenue you will need to sell at least $274 per day for 365 days.

Or you can set the goal for month sales of $8,334 per month.

Breaking down your revenue goals into smaller targets makes it easier. You can also likely plan for higher numbers in months like November and December when people are purchasing holiday gifts.

If you’re willing to put in the work, it is possible to make a significant income by selling on Etsy.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that success is not guaranteed. There’s no guarantee that you’ll make six figures in your first year of selling. If you keep working and improving your shop you could hit that goal in time.

    Bottom Line

If you’re thinking about selling on Etsy, there’s a good chance that you’ll be able to find success on the platform. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the amount of money you make will depend on a variety of factors, including the price of your products and the fees associated with each transaction.

Before you get started, be sure to do your research and understand how the platform works. This will help you set realistic expectations for your earnings and avoid any surprises down the road.

What Products Sell Best On Etsy?

If you want to make a lot of money on Etsy then you probably want to sell products that buyers love.

Not sure what things to sell in your Etsy shop? There are a few different factors that you’ll need to consider when choosing what products to sell on Etsy.

    Deciding What To Sell

First, you’ll need to decide if you want to sell handmade items, vintage items, or both. If you choose to sell handmade items, you’ll need to create high quality and unique products. You’ll also be limited by your time and physical capacity.

You’ll also need to think about what types of products are popular on Etsy. Some popular categories include jewelry, clothing, home decor, and art. Selling something that is constantly trending can lead to many more sales.

Finally, you’ll need to consider the price of your products. In general, items that are priced between $20 and $50 tend to do well on Etsy. This price point is easy for buyers to impulse purchase and it’s also high enough to give you a decent profit margin on many products.

Product Ideas To Sell On Etsy

If you’re not sure what types of products to sell, take some time to browse the site and see what other sellers are offering. This will give you a good idea of what’s popular on Etsy and what types of products are selling well.

Personally I’ve always sold digital products on Etsy. It’s my favorite product because Etsy makes selling them very easy and passive! Not sure what digital products are or what to sell? Check out these lists for ideas:

  • How Much Does It Cost To Have An Etsy Shop?

In this article, we’ll discuss the different costs involved in running an Etsy shop, from the cost of having a shop to payment processing fees.

We’ll also provide tips for keeping your costs down, so you can start and run your Etsy shop on a budget. Read on to learn more about the cost of having an Etsy shop.

Etsy shop costs and fees: How much does it cost to have an Etsy shop?

Related: What I Wish I Knew Before Starting An Etsy Shop

How much does it cost to have an Etsy shop?

Let’s be honest, there are a lot of fees associated with selling on Etsy.

It’s impossible to give an exact number on how much it will cost you because it depends on a lot of factors.

Are you selling digital downloads? Then it will cost you less than someone selling physical products they have to pay to ship.

Are you selling in large volumes or doing big bundles in one listing? This will affect how many times you pay listing fees.

There are many factors that affect how much it actually costs to have an Etsy shop. Unfortunately for many those costs rise as their shop grows and it has sent many sellers off the platform.

Let’s look at some of the fees Etsy has for sellers and how they can affect your shop costs.

    Etsy Listing Fees

Etsy listings are created when you add a product to your Etsy shop. You must pay listing fees in order to list goods for sale on Etsy. You will be charged a listing fee for each individual listing you post.

A fixed cost of $0.20 USD is charged for each listing.

This fee will still apply whether or not the item you list sells. The fee is automatically added to your payment account when you publish an item.

    Auto-Renew Sold Fees

Auto-renewed listings automatically repost listings that are purchased from your store and charges you the $0.20 USD listing fee again.

This is a great way to reduce the time required for manual product reposting. For digital product sellers it makes things even more passive.

When a listing is set up to renew automatically and is bought, you will be charged the regular $0.20 USD listing cost.

    Multi-Quantity Listing Fees

You will additionally be charged the standard $0.20 USD listing fee for each subsequent item bought from the listing if you offer different versions of the same item for sale in a single listing and a consumer purchases more than one version. However, the extra fees won’t be applied until after a multi-quantity purchase.

Your payment account would show the first $0.20 USD listing charge plus an additional $0.20 USD for the additional item purchased, for instance, if you had more than one item in stock for a particular listing and a buyer bought two distinct varieties of that item.

    Custom Listing Fees

When you wish to advertise a specific item for a private sale to a particular buyer, private listings can be helpful. The typical rate for private listing fees is $0.20 USD even if you’ve discussed the product off of Etsy.

    The Etsy Entrepreneur Course

I earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you.

    Etsy Transaction Fees

Beyond the listing fee just to have your product on Etsy, you will also have to pay fees whenever you make a sale. These transaction fees cover the price of using Etsy for your e-commerce platform.

Transaction fees are the fees that Etsy collects when someone buys something from your store. In contrast to listing fees, transaction fees only occur on listings that sell.

Right now transaction fees are 6.5% of the total order value.

Along with the shipping and gift-wrapping costs, this fee is added to the final item price. The costs will be listed separately on your payment account since Etsy keeps this 6.5%.

Your payment account will automatically be updated with the transaction charge amount.

    Etsy Payment Processing Fees

Payment processing costs consist of a fixed rate plus a percentage of the item’s overall sale price.

Each nation has a different rate and percentage. The fees deducted from the final sale price of the item will include shipping costs and any relevant sales taxes.

For each transaction that makes use of Etsy Payments, there are fees for payment processing. These processing costs are added to your payment account and taken out before deposits. They are in addition to the transaction costs charged by Etsy.

    Sales Tax

If your customer lives in a state that requires sales tax, Etsy automatically charges sales tax to your customer. Legally you have to charge sales tax where applicable, but luckily Etsy makes this easy for shop owners.

Etsy determines the applicable state sales tax rate for the shipping address, bills the customer, and forwards the tax due to the appropriate state.

Since Etsy charges sales tax where applicable automatically, you do not need to count this as an extra fee for your business.

It is just something that you should be aware of when selling items since this is included on Etsy but would be something you must collect on your own website.

    Etsy Shop Advertising Fees

In addition to the other fees, Etsy also has advertising programs that charges a fee when it leads to a sale for your shop. Etsy offers two different ways to advertise that will rack up advertising fees for your Etsy shop.

    Etsy Ad Fees

The first option is the advertising program Etsy offers on their platform so they you can appear above other shops in search results.

You can purchase this paid advertising on Etsy through the Advertising Dashboard in Shop Manager.

With this advertising option you set a daily maximum budget and Etsy distributes your ads based on the bids. For more information on how this works you can read the om your current balance and reflected in your payment account. For more information, please see the Advertising & Marketing Policy on Etsy’s website.

    Etsy Offsite Ad Fees

Etsy also operates an advertising program that shows ads on various social networks and search engines.

If these offsite ads show your listing, a buyer clicks it, and then purchases it, you pay an advertising fee.

The rates for offsite advertising fees varies based on your shop volume over the last year:

    1. You pay 15% of the order amount as the standard fee
    2. If you made less than $10,000 in sales in the last year you pay 15% on offsite ad orders
    3. If you made more than $10,000 in sales in the last year you pay 12% on offsite orders

Yes, you have to pay 12-15% of the purchase to Etsy if they’ve advertised your item. Luckily small shops earning less than $10,000 can opt out of the offsite ads program until they hit $10,000 and then it is mandatory.

    Calculating Your Etsy Fees

Those are the main fees you’ll have to deal with as a seller on Etsy. Unfortunately most new sellers are not aware of all the different fees.

Every week I see new sellers freak out over the amount they received from a sale after Etsy’s fees.

Etsy might have a lot of fees but they are very upfront about them. You should take some time to figure out all the fees required and how much it will cost you to run an Etsy shop.

You can use your own products and run they through Etsy fee calculators. Try a couple different Etsy cost calculators to make sure you are considering all fees and pricing your products appropriately.

    What is Etsy Payments?

With the help of Etsy Payments, you can offer your customers a variety of payment methods that allow them to pay in their own currency. All of it is deposited according to a timetable you designate into your bank account.

Customers have a wide range of alternatives through Etsy Payments, including PayPal, Apple Pay, and Etsy gift cards. Actual data shows that businesses with various payment alternatives generate 49% more revenue than those with only one.

No matter how customers pay, Etsy will deposit all sales into your bank account in your home currency. Daily, weekly, biweekly, or monthly payments are all possible. In addition, you can request further deposits whenever you like.

Etsy’s Seller Protection Policy applies to all transactions completed through Etsy Payments. To support and safeguard you, their payment experts and fraud-detection technologies are available round-the-clock.

Tips for Keeping Etsy Shop Costs Down

The amount Etsy takes per sale causes sticker shock for some sellers once they see the amount they’re left with. I’ve seen many people freak out in Facebook groups when they end up with much less than expected.

In order to keep your Etsy shop profitable, it is important to keep costs down in any way you can.

Fortunately, there are a few ways to reduce the amount you pay in expenses and Etsy fees.

Here are some ideas for keeping your Etsy fees low:

    Lower Shipping Fees

You can reduce the amount you pay for shipping if you choose a less expensive courier and lower your shipping costs.

Even though the savings might not seem like much, they add up over time.

It’s also important to remember that Etsy takes their fees out of what the customer pays for shipping too. You need to make sure you cover your costs for shipping even after fees.

    Reduce Shipping Countries

The reality is being a global shipper is expensive. Being picky about the nations you ship to can help you reduce the fees charged by Etsy as well as your delivery expenses, which in turn reduces the amount Etsy takes.

When shipping abroad as opposed to domestically, the Etsy Payments cost increases by 1% for Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. This is because Etsy makes more money when you have to charge more to ship an item.

Of course, one may contend that making a sale to a consumer in another nation and paying Etsy more money is preferable to not doing so. However, the more significant cut that Etsy takes might not be worthwhile for small businesses with modest profit margins.

Like most payment processors, the fees for Etsy Payments vary by country. Etsy deducts the complete sale price of the item, including shipping costs and any relevant sales tax or VAT, in order to cover payment processing costs.

Reduce The Amount of Items You Offer

Many Etsy business owners tend to offer a lot of products in order to reach more people. Some “Etsy gurus” tell people they won’t see any success until they have 100 listings for example.

However, just because you have the ability to create something doesn’t mean you should.

Having too many options might actually hurt sales because it could possibly decrease customer perception of your product’s value.

Furthermore, more listings will raise the Etsy fees without raising your take-home pay.

Naturally, you don’t want a simple store with just 1-2 listings. You need a range of options that customers can browse once they find your shop. However, you also don’t want to keep adding listings to your shop aimlessly and accruing Etsy listing costs without any guarantee that they will actually sell.

There will be some testing involved when you initially open a shop, and you’ll have listings that don’t sell. You gain a better understanding of what kinds of listings sell over time. You can decide which listing are more likely to be ignored as you make transactions and gather statistics.

You’ll limit the number of unneeded Etsy fees you pay when you figure out which items are your bestsellers and just include those that are essential.

    Do Not Use Auto-Renew

You might wish to keep auto-renew enabled for some listings, such as bestsellers. But you should be picky about which listings earn a place in your shop if you want to lower your Etsy fees.

If an item hasn’t sold in 4 months, is it worth spending $0.20 over and over in hopes that it will?

It may be preferable to delete a listing and try selling it through a different platform if it isn’t selling as is. You might want to try instead selling it through your own website with a Shopify store.

    Create Bundle Listings

Bundle listings are a great way to increase your average order amount and also save on fees. It’s one of the best things digital product sellers can do.

If your customers commonly purchase multiples of the same type of item, you can create bundle listings for the most popular items and quantities.

For instance, if your clients frequently purchase 3 candles at once, but you have a range of scents available, you might want to make a listing for a 3 candle pack and list the various scent combinations in the variation.

Again, this helps you spend less money on listing costs. These strategies won’t result in appreciable cost reductions for every purchase, but they might mount up over the course of a year.

    In Summary

Hopefully this look at the fees and related expenses has helped you get a better idea of how much it costs to have an Etsy shop.

There are several ways that you can reduce the amount of money you pay in fees to Etsy.

While some methods, like reducing the number of items you offer for sale, may not be ideal, others, like reducing shipping countries or using auto-renew sparingly, can help to keep your costs down so that you can run your Etsy shop on a budget.

Etsy is a great platform for selling handmade goods and digital products. However, it is important to know the costs associated with running a shop. This allows you to make informed decisions about how to run your business.

  • How To Make Digital Downloads For Etsy

Anyone with a creative flair can create digital downloads to sell on Etsy. In this article, you’ll learn how to make digital products to sell on Etsy and how to create digital downloads on Canva.

You’ll also learn about the best file types to use for Etsy digital downloads and how to copyright your work. Finally, you’ll find out how much you can make selling digital downloads on Etsy.

How To Make Digital Downloads For Etsy

Basically, everything you need to know about how to make digital downloads for Etsy.

    What is a Digital Download?

A digital download is a file that can be downloaded and used digitally.

This could be an image, audio clip, or even a piece of software.

For example, Etsy sellers often create digital downloads of their artwork or photography to sell to buyers.

I personally have an Etsy shop that sells printables. These digital downloads continually earn me a couple hundred dollars every month.

    Etsy Digital Download File Types

These are the common digital file types supported by Etsy:

    • .bmp
    • .doc
    • .gif
    • .jpeg
    • .jpg
    • .mobi
    • .mov
    • .mp3
    • .mpeg
    • .pdf
    • .png
    • .psp
    • .rtf
    • .stl
    • .txt
    • .zip
    • .ePUB
    • .iBook

You can make and sell digital items in any of these file types.

What is the Best File Type for Etsy Digital Downloads?

The best file type for Etsy digital downloads depends on the product you are selling.

For images, JPG is common. This file type is small enough to be downloaded quickly but still maintains a high-quality image. However, if you are selling clip art you may need to use PNG or for SVGs you will obviously need the SVG file.

Many sellers of art use multiple file types and let their customer decide which they need.

For other files, PDF is the standard. This file type works best for things like printables and e-books.

    Creating Digital Downloads for Etsy

To create digital downloads for Etsy, you’ll need to sign up for an Etsy account. Once you’ve created an account, you can start selling your digital products.

When selling a digital product on Etsy, you can choose to sell your item as “Instant Download” or Made to Order.”

If you offer a product for instant download, that means when you create the listing, you upload the file, and when a consumer makes a purchase, they instantly receive it.

When you sell a product as “Made to Order,” the customer will receive an email confirming the order but won’t receive the product immediately. However, as you work on the customization, the order will appear as an open order on your Orders & Shipping page so that you can keep track of it.

For completely “passive” sales you will want to create instant download type products. Without the need to customize products for customers you will allow Etsy to fully handle the sale and delivery of product.

    Making Digital Downloads

All of this information sounds good, but sometimes you need to see it in action.

How do you actually create the products? What software do you use? How do you find or create the content inside the products?

Making digital products is the same whether you sell those products on Etsy, alternative marketplaces, or your own site using Shopify.

The following videos walk through creating a couple different kinds of digital products.

Canva has grown in popularity over the years and many of use Canva to create digital products. There are many Canva tutorials available so even beginners can use this easy software to create amazing products like printables or Canva templates.

The great thing about Canva is that you can use it for other design functions too, from creating social media graphics to making money in other ways too!

If you’re looking for other affordable software options for creating digital downloads, you can also try GIMP or Inkscape.

    Pricing Your Digital Downloads

When pricing your digital downloads, you’ll need to consider the cost of your software, time spent creating the files, Etsy seller fees and any additional fees.

It also helps to price your digital products based on what similar items sell for on Etsy.

To find out what other sellers are charging for digital downloads, search for items similar to yours and see what the average price is. You can also use an Etsy pricing calculator to help you determine a fair price for your product.

I personally use SaleSamurai for this when researching other products and shops. I like to gather as much information as possible to figure out why other shops are making sales and Sale Samurai pulls this data together.

Unfortunately, theft is common on Etsy. Many sellers will steal your work and sell it in their own shops. This is a sad reality and you need to try to protect yourself.

You can copyright your work by adding a watermark to your images. This will make it harder for people to steal your work and sell it as their own.

To add a watermark, open your image in Canva and click the “Text” button. Then, type in your copyright information. You can also add a watermark by using Photoshop or another image editing software.

You can also look into legal actions like getting a trademark for your brand or any unique item you sell.

If you have a seller that is stealing your work, you can file a copyright infringement report on Etsy to get them taken down.

    Types of Digital Downloads

There are endless possibilities for the types of digital products you can sell on Etsy. Some popular items include:

    • Printable wall art
    • Printable planners
    • Digital scrapbooking kits
    • Fonts and graphics
    • Stickers (physical and digital)
    • eBooks
    • Project patterns (sewing, knitting, crochet, etc.)
    • SVG files for Cricut and Silhouette machines

Not sure what to make? Check out these posts for ideas:

Let’s look at some of the more common Etsy digital downloads in depth with tips on how to create the best possible product.

    Art Prints

If you want to sell digital prints on Etsy, you’ll need to create high-quality JPG or PNG files of your artwork. Once your files are ready, you can upload them to your Etsy shop and start selling.

To ensure your prints look their best, it’s important to use high-resolution images. You can increase the resolution of an image by using editing software like Photoshop or Lightroom.

When creating digital prints, you’ll also need to decide on the size and orientation of your artwork. Most art prints are either horizontal or vertical, but you can also offer square or panoramic prints.

Once you’ve decided on the size and orientation of your print, you may need to create a border around the image. This is called a bleed. A bleed is an extra 1/8 inch of space around the edge of your print that allows for slight variations in trimming.

If you don’t include a bleed, your prints may have white edges if they’re trimmed even slightly off-center. To avoid this, make sure to add a bleed when creating digital prints for Etsy.

    Digital Clip Art

Digital clip art is a popular type of digital product that can be used for various purposes. For example, clip art can be used to create invitations, logos, website graphics, and much more.

When creating digital clip art, it’s important to use high-quality images and graphics. Once you have your clip art files ready, you can upload them to your Etsy shop and start selling.

    SVGs or Cut Files

SVGs or cut files are digital files that can be used with cutting machines like the Cricut or Silhouette. These files can be used to create custom products like t-shirts, mugs, and more.

If you want to sell SVGs on Etsy, you’ll need to create high-quality vector files. You can use free software like Inkscape or Illustrator to create your SVGs.

    Planner Printables

Planner printables are a popular type of digital product that can be used to organize and decorate planners. These files can be used to create custom pages for any kind of planner.

High-quality photos and graphics should be used while making planner printables. Once your files are prepared, you can post them to your Etsy store and begin taking orders.

    Checklists, Calendars, and Worksheets

Another popular type of digital product is checklists, calendars, and worksheets. These files can be used for various purposes like keeping track of goals, staying organized, etc.

PDFs are the best file types for checklists, calendars, and worksheets. This will ensure that your customers can easily print and use your files.

    Spreadsheets and Templates

You can also sell spreadsheets and templates on Etsy. Spreadsheets are digital files that can be used to track data, create budgets, and more.

You’ll need to create high-quality Excel or Google Sheets files to sell spreadsheets on Etsy. These files should be well-designed and easy to use.

Another type of digital product you can sell on Etsy is templates. Templates can be used for various purposes like creating invitations, marketing materials, and more. When creating templates, it’s important to use high-quality images and graphics.

    Ebooks

If you want to sell eBooks on Etsy, you’ll need to create high-quality PDF files. You can use free software like Adobe InDesign or Microsoft Word to create your eBook. You may also want to use an editor to ensure your work is error-free.

Once your eBook is complete, you can upload it to your Etsy shop and start selling. Be sure to include a description of your book and what customers can expect to learn from it.

  • How to Get Free Products to Review on YouTube

One of the first milestones of growing your YouTube channel is receiving free products from companies. This can even be done when you are a brand new YouTuber with ZERO subscribers. Not sure how? Keep reading to learn how to get free products to review on YouTube.

No time to learn and want someone to walk you through the process? Check out this helpful course.

Learn how to grow a profitable YouTube channel while still working full-time. This course from lawyer Erika Kullberg teaches you everything you need to know.

I earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you.

Now we will go in depth on getting free products for review.

Whether you already have a large audience or are just getting started, you’ll learn how to:

    • get free products from brands to review on YouTube
    • how to reach out to brands you want to work with
    • where to find free product review deals

Let’s look at how to start and grow your product reviews.

How Do YouTubers Get Free Stuff?

So, how do YouTubers actually get free stuff to use on their channels?

Does it come from the brands? From PR companies? From connections made at conferences? Or from outreach by the YouTuber?

It can come from all of these and other sources!

Typically brands will send free products to YouTubers hoping to get included in videos. Sometimes a PR company will handle the communication and send the product to the YouTube creator.

Brand new YouTubers will usually receive free products based on their own outreach. This can happen in person at conferences or via email by reaching out to brands they want to work with.

Sometimes this will also include compensation for the YouTuber, but often it is only free products for smaller creators.

This guide to getting products for review will not cover the aspects of paid brand deals but instead focus just on how to get free products.

How To Get Free Products To Review On YouTube

How To Get Free Products To Review On YouTube

Reaching out to brands is the easiest way to get free products to review. But how do you reach out to brands you want to work with?

When you are a new content creator this may seem intimidating, but the process is actually quite easy.

    Getting Free Products

Here’s how to get free stuff to review on your channel:

    1. Make a list of companies that work with YouTubers
    2. Find the company contact information online
    3. Write an outreach message to the company
    4. Send a follow-up email
    5. Receive free products and create reviews

This is the process of getting free products. While it’s simple work it can be very time consuming in the beginning and you will receive some rejections.

You will need to reach out to many different companies in order to get free products to use in your videos. Remember that it might not be the right time or fit for brands but any contact you make is getting your channel on their radar.

    Sharing Review Videos

Here’s what to do after you’ve received free products and created the video:

    1. Inform the company when the video is done
    2. Promote the video to gain as many views as possible

Generally you will want to reach out to the company and get their approval before sharing your video. Sometimes this is required by companies so you’ll need to make sure to follow any guidelines you were given.

Once the video is approved you should publish it and gain as many views as possible. Take some time to make sure the video does well on your channel.

This will look positive for any future brands you want to work with so take time to make it happen!

What If You Can’t Get Free Products?

Maybe you’ve reached out to companies and only received rejection emails. Maybe you can’t get the products you want.

Unfortunately, sometimes this happens. What do you do if you can’t get free products to review?

In this case, you might need to start with what you have.

This means you’ll use the items you already own to create reviews.

Take an item you already own and use it in a video. Create a great review or include it in a video by using it with other items. Publish the video and promote it to start gaining views.

While you promote the review video you can also tag the company that produces that product. Tagging the company on social media creates a link that didn’t previously exist and gets you on their radar. Sometimes this is the first step to building a relationship that provides you with free products in the future.

    Shouldn’t You Be Getting Paid?

Many YouTubers have to find the balance between getting paid for their work versus receiving free products.

Obviously you want to be paid for your work!

However, sometimes being gifted products is the first step to getting paid.

    Building Relationships

When you don’t have a large audience receiving a free product is the first step to building a relationship with a brand.

This is something that can grow on both sides as your audience grows and develops. This often leads to future paid campaigns when you have a larger reach.

    Affiliate Marketing

Another option to get paid when you are a smaller channel is to work for the company as an affiliate. This means you will get paid a commission every time you refer a sale by promoting the product.

This is the easiest way to get paid when you are a new creator that can’t get big sponsorship deals based on audience size.

Not sure how to go about doing affiliate marketing? Check out these in depth guides:

    TubeBuddy vs VidIQ FAQs

Since I’m a professional YouTube content creator I do get a lot of questions about the YouTube tools I use. Here are some of the more common questions I get about TubeBuddy vs VidIQ.

    Is TubeBuddy better than VidIQ?

Overall, both tools (VidIQ vs. Tubebuddy) are powerful tools for YouTube videos and can be utilized to grow your channel.

The most significant distinction between the two is that VidIQ provides a broader range of tools for video research, management, and optimization, which might be off-putting to people who are unfamiliar with these metrics.

Are TubeBuddy and VidIQ the same?

No, they are not the same, but both tools are very useful and have different benefits.

The primary distinction between the two is that VidIQ makes use of historical data from competitors, whereas TubeBuddy’s tool shows current video search results.

This indicates that if another user has recently published a video with the same name as yours, Tubebuddy will display it in your result, but VidIQ will not.

Can you use TubeBuddy and VidIQ?

Is it possible to use both VidIQ and TubeBuddy at the same time? Of course, you can, but it may be a bit overwhelming and fill up the interface with clutter. Usually, less is more when it comes to tools.

However, both platforms allow you to adjust which features are available so you can customize it to what works for you. You can adjust your TubeBuddy features through your account settings and your VidIQ features via your Chrome Extension settings.

    Is VidIQ worth the money?

This depends on your own needs and individual budget. However, VidIQ is a genuine and useful tool that gives you real YouTube metrics and data, such as keyword volume, popular videos, rivals’ VPH, tag suggestions, and more.

VidIQ also has a basic free plan that allows you to try before buying. Then the next step up on their plan tier is only $7.50 per month. So if this tool helps you to gain more traffic to your videos and start earning money, it will eventually pay for itself.

    Which VidIQ plan is best?

Choosing the right VidIQ plan will just depend on the features that you think will work the best for you and your YouTube Channel.

With the VidIQ free plan, you have a great way to get started and try out their service. The Pro and Boost plans contain progressively more comprehensive analytical methods for tracking more trends and rivals, obtaining additional keyword suggestions, and so on.

    Which tool do you use?

Personally I’ve used TubeBuddy the most during my YouTube career. I’ve found it to offer the majority of the tools I need and the direct integration into my account provides everything I need.

I’ve also started using VidIQ in 2022 to explore the different tools available. So far I’ve enjoyed it but most of my channel growth came while I was using TubeBuddy.

So, if you want to have. a better idea of how the features work, download VidIQ for free and give it a try.

TubeBuddy and VidIQ – Which is Better?

Overall, both TubeBuddy and VidIQ are great tools for YouTube content creators. They provide a range of features that can help you to maximize your videos’ organic reach, beat the competition, and more. However, VidIQ offers a broader range of tools, which might be off-putting to people who are unfamiliar with these metrics.

Additionally, VidIQ has a basic free plan that allows you to try before you buy. So if this tool helps you to gain more traffic to your videos and start earning money, it will eventually pay for itself.

If you are unsure of which tool will work best for you, I highly suggest trying out each for at least one month in order to see which you prefer.

The most important thing is to keep creating great content that your audience will love, and the rest will follow!

  • How To Join The Etsy Affiliate Program

Every month I make $3,000+ from affiliate marketing programs. I love sharing products I use and earning money when someone purchases that product. One of my favorite ways to earn money in this way is the Etsy affiliate program. That’s why in this post I’m sharing how to become an Etsy affiliate.

The Etsy affiliate program is an amazing fit for many lifestyle content creators. It’s a great way to increase your revenue as a blogger or video creator.

    What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is where you promote products to your audience and then earn a commission when someone makes a purchase through your unique affiliate link.

Basically you earn money by selling other people’s products.

The commissions for those sales can range from 4% to 70% of the product sales price.

Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money on YouTube or TikTok or with any content you create online. It’s a perfect fit for creators who might not want to make their own product to sell on Etsy.

    The Etsy Affiliate Program

Many people don’t even know Etsy has an affiliate program. Lucky for you, it does exist and many of us use it to earn money every month!

The Etsy affiliate program allows you to earn a commission every time you send someone to Etsy and they make a purchase.

That’s right: they can purchase something from ANY Etsy shop!

The Etsy affiliate commission is similar to Amazon’s. You’ll earn a flat 4% commission for any sales made on Etsy through your affiliate link (minus sales that aren’t eligible like gift cards and orders paid by check).

If you are an Etsy seller like I am it is important to note that you can’t earn commissions on your own shop. You need to disclose to Etsy the shop you own and they will make sure your commissions exclude purchases from your Etsy shop.

    Why Become An Etsy Affiliate

Many traditional affiliate marketers ignore the Etsy affiliate program because they consider a 4% commission to be too low.

I believe this creates an amazing opportunity for creators because being an Etsy affiliate is a great way to create additional income only.

Why would you consider becoming an Etsy affiliate? Let’s look at the positives.

Etsy has a variety of items.

There is a ton of variety in products on Etsy. They are the leader in crafts and vintage items but also have a variety of other products that your customers might love.

Etsy is a great fit if you are in any of these niches:

    • crafts & DIY
    • weddings
    • jewelry
    • home decor
    • organization
    • vintage clothing

Those niches are perfect for the Etsy affiliate program but almost every creator can find something to promote thanks to the millions of different Etsy shops.

Etsy is known and trusted by consumers.

As an affiliate you can take advantage of the trust between Etsy and it’s customers. When you send customers to Etsy you know that you are sending them to a well-known brand that will protect and side with customers.

Because Etsy is known and many people already use it to make purchases you are less likely to have issues as an affiliate. No one will be worried about giving over their credit card information and m

All you need to do as an affiliate is get people to Etsy and then let Etsy handle the rest. With a 30 day cookie period you are likely to make sales as long as you get people to the website.

    Etsy affiliate bonuses for content.

Etsy often hosts contents and bonus periods where you can earn extra as an affiliate. You can also often earn additional income as an affiliate for creating specific content the Etsy affiliate program has requested.

As an example, they gave $10 to all affiliates who created a Christmas gift guide featuring Etsy affiliate products. They do this often around holidays and sales. As an Etsy affiliate you can get bonuses for content you are already creating!

    It helps small businesses.

Etsy sellers are usually individuals with a side hustle or small business. Every time you send a buyer to Etsy instead of a big box website you are helping a small business succeed.

While this doesn’t earn you extra money it should give you a warm fuzzy feeling. Helping other small businesses and creators succeed builds karma for your own business to succeed.

How To Become An Etsy Affiliate

Now that we’ve covered all the positives of the program, you’re ready to join!

The Etsy affiliate program is run by Awin, a large affiliate network that hosts multiple different affiliate programs. You can join the Etsy affiliate program on Awin or ShareASale (which is now owned by Awin but still operates separately).

To join the Etsy affiliate program you need to create an account on Awin or ShareASale.

Pennies Not Perfection earns a commission if you join, at no additional cost to you.

Then after you are inside these networks with your account you will apply to the Etsy affiliate program.

To join the Etsy program inside your account:

    • Go to Programs
    • Search for Etsy
    • Click “Join Program”
    • Fill out the information about how you will promote Etsy products

The Etsy affiliate program accepts most people that apply but adding information about you and how you will promote products helps fast track your acceptance.

If you are considering an increase in your affiliate marketing efforts I recommend joining both Awin and ShareAsale. Both websites have a very different experience and offer different programs.

You can then select one to join the Etsy affiliate program under.

  • YouTube Automation: Scam Or Cash Cow Business?

Have you heard of YouTube cash cow channels or YouTube automation? It’s one of those things that sounds too good to be true: completely passive income from YouTube month after month.

Let’s look at what YouTube actually means and whether it’s a business worth pursuing… or a huge scam.

    What Is YouTube Automation?

YouTube automation most often refers to a YouTube channel that’s completely outsourced.

You pay creative people to script, edit, and publish YouTube videos on a channel that you own. Then you sit back and collect the income from that channel as the videos earn money every month.

Many YouTube creators hire freelancers to help produce content. In fact, I’m a full time YouTube creator who pays editors to help me most months. There is nothing unusual about hiring professionals to help produce content on YouTube.

YouTube automation takes that a step further. You hire freelancers to create every part of your video.

You are not on screen or even involved in the video at all. The team (or individual) you hire does it all for you with your direction.

The goal of YouTube Automation is to creative a monthly passive income stream from YouTube after you’ve invested in the content creation.

    Is YouTube Automation A Scam?

In theory, YouTube automation is a business model that can and does work.

You can hire freelancers to create every part of a video for YouTube.

The dream of completely passive income from YouTube automation is a bit more complicated however.

Many of the “gurus” selling courses on how to create cash cow channels are selling a dream that feels much more like a scam.

Why does it feel so scammy?

It feels like a scam because creating YouTube content that earns money is difficult!

Beginners who’ve never created videos are very unlikely to put together a team that creates content worth watching. If your videos aren’t amazing they won’t get views and you won’t earn money.

The poorly paid freelancers you hire when you’re starting out also will need a lot of direction. Undoubtedly without your valid input you’ll be wasting money on hiring people.

Many YouTube automation articles and courses sell the dream but it’s much more complicated to put into practice. These courses are selling a dream of passive income without being realistic about the effort involved.

For veteran video creators this is a valid business model but finding reliable and professional freelancers is difficult. Directing content that’s worth views is difficult even with a good team. Like any online business method this is not a quick or easy method to earn passive income.

    YouTube Automation Steps

Still interested in using this model to create income from YouTube? Let’s look at how to put YouTube automation into practice.

Here are the steps to creating a cash cow style channel with YouTube Automation:

    1. Choose a niche for your videos.
    2. Pick one of the higher paying or higher view niches.
    3. Find freelancers onsites like Fiverr or Online Jobs PH for the following steps
    4. Hire someone to create video ideas or do keyword research
    5. Pick someone to write a script for your video
    6. Hire someone to record the voiceover or on camera speaking
    7. Choose an editor to put together free or paid video clips and effects
    8. Hire a freelancers to upload and optimize your video
    9. Bonus: hire someone to promote your videos off YouTube too

That’s it! You can hire as many freelancers as needed to hit all of these elements of a YouTube video.

You can see how this could get difficult since multiple people will be working on one video. Sometimes you can usually find people to do more than one step. Often the best freelancers are ones that specialize in one thing only.

If someone promises to do it all you will have to wonder why they aren’t doing it for their own channel.

In addition to the actual video creation you’ll need to either manage these freelancers or hire someone to manage them. Making sure you have a strong workflow and resolve any issues they have will be an important part of the business. If you can find someone you trust to manage this process you can continue to stand back and consider it “automated”.

There are other methods of YouTube automation where you can use technology to put together scraped videos. This method can be complicated for beginners and is not the method most commonly discussed under this term.

For an example using python to accomplish an automated channel you can read this article.

How to Make Money With YouTube Automation

Making money with YouTube automation is the same as any creator making money on YouTube.

There are 5 main ways most YouTubers make money:

    1. Ad revenue
    2. Affiliate marketing
    3. Brand deals: Sponsored videos / Partnerships
    4. Community: Memberships / Patreon
    5. Sales: Product sales / merch

With YouTube automation the emphasis is often on earning money just via ads. This means you’ll focus on getting as many views as possible to earn the most passive form on income (ads).

In order to make more on YouTube from ads you need to get more people to watch more ads. It’s really that simple.

Here are a few ways to make money with ads on YouTube:

    • Choose a niche that earns decent money from ads (check out Most Profitable Niches On YouTube)
    • Add more ads to your videos including before the video, after the video and mid-roll ads.
    • Create longer videos so you can get to the 10 minute mark which enables mid-roll ads.
    • Make your content binge worthy so the viewer goes from one video to the next.
    • Create evergreen content that people will be able to watch again and again or find useful any time they find it in the future.
    • Make videos on popular or trending topics to ride waves of interest and large viewership increases.
    • Finally, make good videos people want to watch!

Those are a few of the best tips for growing your ad revenue on YouTube!

    How Does This Method Fail?

There are many, many ways for channels to fail while implementing YouTube automation.

Here are some of the ways I’ve seen people fail while attempting this business model.

    • Failure to hit monetization requirements. You need 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours to earn money via ads. Many people give up before hitting this.
    • Inability to manage a team of freelancers. Using multiple people to create work is difficult and requires a project manager. Most people struggle with managing this effectively.
    • Poor quality work produced on the cheap. It’s tempting to hire the cheapest possible freelancer but this leads to poor quality videos that no one watches.

Any and all of these failure points are ways this method falls apart for people.

While it’s not technically a scam, this method of earning money on YouTube is much more difficult than you would expect!

    Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the common questions I’ve seen about YouTube automation.

What is the meaning of YouTube automation?

YouTube automation is where you outsource the entire creation of YouTube videos to put on your channel. You earn money from the videos getting views on those videos without doing any of the work.

What else is YouTube automation called?

Something this method is also talked about as cash cow channels, YTA, copy and paste, and more.

How do you automate a YouTube channel?

You can automate your YouTube channel by planning out a video content creation plan. You choose topics in your niche and then hire freelancers to create the actual videos.

Where can you hire freelancers to YouTube videos?

You can hire freelancers for YouTube videos in a number of places:

Is it hard to make money on YouTube with automation?

Honestly, it’s hard to make money on YouTube at all!

This is a valid way to earn income online and many of us make a full time living on YouTube. But it took me a couple years and lots of work to earn enough money on YouTube to live on.

Most creators give up early on because it’s difficult to earn sustainable money on YouTube.

    17. Focus on your target audience
    18. Research Etsy top sellers
    19. Provide amazing customer service

Now let’s dive deeper into each method of getting sales on Etsy.

    Use Etsy SEO Strategies

Etsy SEO is one of the most important tools you have to increase sales on Etsy.

SEO stands for search engine optimization. This is incredibly important for your shop since Etsy relies heavily on the search function to connect customers with products.

Etsy SEO is the process of making sure the keywords and phrases used in your product listing match what people are searching for on Etsy. When you do this correctly you get a lot of buyers arriving in your shop just from what they type into the Etsy search bar.

To use Etsy SEO in the best way possible you want to use accurate, descriptive keywords in your listing that people are actually searching for on Etsy.

How do you do this? Finding the right keywords requires you do keyword research. This helps you understand how many people are typing in certain words per month into the search bar. This process is done through using an Etsy keyword research tool like Sale Samurai.

With Sale Samurai you can research different keywords and find out how many people are using that keyword. This is one of the best keyword research tools I’ve found for Etsy. It’s affordable, easy to use, and gives you all the data necessary to make sure you create SEO optimized Etsy listings.

Sale Samurai - Etsy SEO, Analytics, & Keyword Research Software

Sale Samurai's powerful AI driven keyword tools help you find and implement long tail keywords that bring in Etsy traffic and generate more sales.

You can use other Etsy keyword tools as well. A quick and dirty method is to just type in related keywords to the Etsy search bar and see what auto populates. If it shows up in the automated suggestions then you know people are searching for it on Etsy. You won’t know many details but this a quick way to rule out or add new keywords too.

Create A Brand For Your Etsy Shop

Branding is critical for most businesses but many Etsy shops skip over this process in favor of other quick wins.

Creating a strong brand for your Etsy business will help you increase sales on Etsy. The process might feel slower at first but pays off in the long run.

This happens because it makes you look more professional and trustworthy and it also helps generate repeat buyers who remember you.

Building a brand on Etsy is difficult. Many shoppers don’t take time to look at individual shops and they only remember they bought something “on Etsy.” This can make it hard to stand out in a customer’s memory but it also makes the need for branding even stronger.

Creating a recognizable and trustworthy brand makes visitors more likely to convert into sales.

Need more on this? Check out Etsy’s article Branding 101: How To Build A Memorable Etsy Shop

    Drive Pinterest Traffic To Etsy

Pinterest is incredibly powerful when it comes to Etsy sales. In fact, it can send thousands of potential buyers to your shop every single day.

Pinterest is one of the best social media platforms to get sales on Etsy. This is because pins can generate traffic for longer periods than most other social media sites and many use Pinterest for purchase planning.

When you create pins linking to your Etsy products those pins can be shared over and over as they are pinned to people’s boards. Since Pinterest is also a search engine with an algorithm you can also be found by search. The audience you reach on Pinterest is likely an entirely different audience than you are reaching on Etsy via search.

On Pinterest you can also link your business account directly to your Etsy store. This will give your listings some authority and make it easier to share on your account.

When creating pins promoting products make sure you include as much detail as possible: eye-catching photos, detailed descriptions, price, and anything that might encourage someone to click through.

Promote Your Shop On Social Media

Increasing your sales on Etsy can be done well by using social media promotion.

There are many different social media platforms now and each one has a large unique audience. Creating content for your products showcasing them or showing them in use is a great way to promote them on Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok.

These social sites all have hashtags and communities dedicated to promoting small business and Etsy shops on all social media sites. Many users love to see small shop owners succeed.

In the past year or two many Etsy sellers have blown up by sharing videos of their products or packaging on TikTok. Customers love to see videos showcasing behind the scenes shots, order packaging,

Social media promotion can help you get sales on Etsy because it more closely connects you to customers. Instead of just being another listing on Etsy you are someone customers can relate to and connect with. These relationships can help because people want to see you succeed.

    Pay For Etsy Ads

Etsy has an internal advertising system that allows you to pay to promote your products.

Lots of new sellers throw shade at Etsy ads because they don’t understand how they work or the power behind them. But when they are done effectively? Etsy ads can print money for your shop.

Etsy ads can boost your sales but it is important to take time to understand how they work and how to best use them.

Not sure how it works? Etsy ads are purchased in an auction system meaning there is not a set amount paid for each listing promotion. When you when a bid with your ad dollars Etsy shows your listing above all others in the Etsy search results. This gives you the first and best impression with a buyer and can lead to more sales. You pay for the ad when someone clicks on your listing photo and visits your shop.

However, when you are using Etsy ads you are also competing with other advertisers and all of the listings showing up via Etsy SEO. There is no guarantee you’ll get the attention of a buyer if your listing photos and title are not on point.

Crafting an Etsy ad strategy can be a great higher-level strategy. When you have a working ad strategy you know that you can pay $1 in ads to generate $3 in revenue. This allows you to confidently increase your budget until you max it out.

If you are new to Etsy ads then you should start small. It’s ok to dip a toe in and start slow. Set a small budget and work with a few listings to better understand how to use Etsy ads to get more sales.

    Get Customer Reviews

Getting customer reviews can be difficult but it’s a great way to increase sales. Potential buyers trust shops that have multiple positive reviews over a new shop with no reviews.

The more reviews you generate for your Etsy shop the more likely your store will be featured in search results. It also increases the odds that a potential buyer will click on your listing.

Asking customers for reviews can help improve your shop overall. To say thank you for the review you can entice customers with a discount on future purchases when they leave a review.

For more ideas on how to get reviews check out this guide: How To Get Reviews On Etsy

    Create A Related Niche Blog

Blogging is a ton of work just like running an Etsy shop. If you enjoy writing it can be an effect way to generate more traffic and sales.

Creating a blog around the niche you sell can generate additional traffic but also authority too. By blogging you will demonstrate superior knowledge and expertise with whatever product type you are selling.

You can also use a blog to share more of the stories behind your particular shop. You could share the details behind products, how they are made, where you source materials from, or the special meaning behind items. A blog gives you a chance to share more details and stories that won’t fit into your listing descriptions.

It also gives you yet another chance to reach more visitors beyond Etsy and bring them to your shop.

Running a blog can feel overwhelming but it is actually very easy to get started. You can sign up and create a blog in under 15 minutes.

    Refresh Your Etsy Listings

Your product description space is very important and often neglected by Etsy sellers. I see many shops asking why they don’t have sales but they have products with very little in the product descriptions.

With the product description you can craft a store that resonates with buyers and helps sell your product. This can be difficult but you will benefit greatly by learning how to improve your copywriting.

Product descriptions that tap into what buyers actually need is how to increase your conversions and get more sales.

Learning how to write a good product description that is both descriptive and unique will help you get more sales.

And Etsy now includes the product description in their SEO factors. This makes the product description even more important! It contributes to user experience, satisfaction and SEO.

You’ll want to make sure your listings are built around descriptive keywords that people are actually searching for daily. If you describe something with a name you made up then no one will ever be able to find it. You have to describe it with words people use to search.

If you need more help with keywords for SEO on Etsy, check out this guide: 5 Best Etsy Keyword Tools To Grow Sales

An easy way to find keywords people are searching without special software is to just start typing in the Etsy search bar. It will auto-populate ideas that are keywords people are using to search. Copy these phrases and use them in your listing title, description, and tags.

Look at your favorite websites and see how they describe their products. Good listings will include descriptive items like size, dimensions, etc., and they will also have a bit of copy that make you aspire to own the item. This is the kind of product descriptions you need to be aiming for with your products.

    Use Beautiful Product Photos

Etsy is a very visual platform. Your main listing photo is competing against others for customers. Your additional listing photos are helping close the sale.

    Photos are incredibly important!

This means you need take better photos to increase your Etsy sales.

Your customers can’t physically touch your items so your listing photos are the best information they have. Descriptions are helpful but nothing beats a beautiful product photos. You need to make sure your photos show your products in the best way possible.

Customers should be able to see:

    • what the product looks like from multiple angles
    • the colors of the product
    • the size in comparison to another item
    • the product in use if possible

Photos should be all of the following:

    • descriptive
    • eye-catching
    • well lit with good lighting
    • focused on the product without busy backgrounds

They need to serve as marketing to get customers to click on your listing and they also need to be descriptive so customers understand the product and don’t feel tricked after buying it.

You should use up all the slots for photos so your customers have as many good photos of your products as possible.

    Create Videos For Your Products

What’s even better than product photos? Videos!

Videos are a great way to give your customers an incredibly realistic idea of the product in use. They can and do sell products. (As a video creator I promise this is true!)

When you add short videos to your product listings it can drastically increase sales.

You will get higher conversions from visitors that see your product listings. You’ll also get more visitors because Etsy has said they prioritize listings with videos. They like to share products with the best customer experience and videos help with this.

Videos for your products should be:

    • 5 – 15 seconds long
    • no audio (if included it is removed when uploaded to the listing)
    • at least 1080px in resolution
    • 100 mb maximum file size
    • video format options: MP4, MOV, FLV, AAC, AVI, 3GP, MPEG
    • one video per listing

If you want to increase your Etsy sales then you should try adding videos to your product listings.

    Reward Loyal Customers

Customer loyalty can be a strong way to increase sales on Etsy.

Many shoppers that buy on Etsy buy again and again. When you treat those customers well you are likely to capture their future sales instead of losing them to a competitor.

What are some ways to reward your customers? Try these:

    • give them a discount on future sales
    • provide freebies in their order
    • offer ways to stay in touch after the sale

Whichever way you decide to reward loyal customers, you can be sure that it will pay off in the end with more sales!

    Run Sales For Your Products

Running Etsy sales and creating discount codes is a great way to get more sales on Etsy.

With the built in Etsy marketing tools you can do a lot of different sales:

    • run a sale offering a percentage off the whole store
    • create a coupon code you give users on a certain platform
    • send a coupon code to people who favorite your items
    • give a discount code as a thank you after purchases

And more! There are many ways to do automated sales or create manual sales every month.

You can often get more sales from running a sale or giving a coupon even if you haven’t lost anything in profits. You should always adjust prices to make sure any sales you run still leave you with enough profit.

One of my favorite features on Etsy is the ability to create discount codes for certain things like an abandoned cart.

Creating this discount code can be very effective in getting sales. The person already liked your product enough to add it to their cart but they didn’t follow through with the purchase.

Want to get that sale? Send them a discount code to push them on to finish the purchase.

Here’s how to create an abandoned cart discount code:

    • Go to your Shop Manager
    • Click Marketing
    • Choose Sales and coupons
    • Click Abandoned cart
    • Fill in the details for your abandoned cart discount

Depending on your margins you can set this up for any amount to try and encourage the buyer to finish checking out.

These coupons can be very effective to get sales but make sure you are still making your desired profit per sale.

Create An Email List Of Customers

Creating an email list of customers is a great way to create additional sales over time. Keeping in touch with customers allows you to build relationships and earn more sales.

This can be tricky on Etsy since you can’t just take customer emails and add them to your list.

Before you add customers to your email list you have to get the buyer’s consent to add them to the list and message them. There are local marketing laws that you have to comply with as someone sending emails and selling products!

Once you have customers on your email list you are able to reach out and make sales without relying totally on Etsy. This is the best way to build a business that earns sales on and OFF Etsy.

    Create YouTube Videos

YouTube is a treasure trove for getting more Etsy sales. Videos on Etsy listings help increase your sales but videos do the same thing and bring in new customers.

YouTube is a huge search engine and full of many targeted communities. It’s the perfect place to show up and introduce your products.

No matter what you sell you will find people on YouTube interested in your offerings. You’ll also be able to create videos that show up when people search for the products you are selling.

People love to use YouTube to research and learn more before purchasing products. Review videos and unboxing are super popular and lead to more sales.

If you are interested in another platform that can increase your product sales then I highly recommend considering YouTube. Videos can take work to produce but they are incredibly effective!

Not sure if you are capable of creating YouTube videos? Check out some of these resources and guides:

Pay Influencers To Promote Your Products

Not sure you want to create your own content to make sales? Then pay an influencer to do it for you!

You can find and pay influencers to promote your Etsy products. Like any business you can tap into the hugely successful influencer marketing world.

You can find related influences on any of these platforms:

    • TikTok
    • YouTube
    • Instagram
    • Facebook Groups
    • Bloggers

There are lots of ways to find people that can reach the audience you want. Once you’ve nailed down your target audience and know who will buy your product then you can find influencers already reaching that audience.

You can also try sending products for free and hoping for an unboxing and promotional video but this is often less effective than reaching out to sponsor content. Free promotional items are often ignored and if you want to utilize this option successfully you should be prepared to pay just like paying for Etsy ads.

Cross Link & Upsell Your Products

Once you have a customer buying 1 product, an easy way to increase your sales is to get that customer to buy more products.

You can do this by cross-linking and upselling your products on etsy.

To cross link products you can do this in the description of products where you add the links to related or complimentary products and bundles. Etsy also does this for you since they show your related product listings on the page as well.

There are also ways to encourage upsells for additional sales. Creating a sale where you offer 20% off 2 or more items or 25% off 3 or more items allows you to upsell products.

Many customers will add more products to their cart to get the discount. If they haven’t, Etsy will prompt the customer during checkout to add more to get the discount. this is a huge benefit and great way to upsell. In fact, this is one of my favorite strategies for digital product sellers on Etsy.

    Focus On Your Target Audience

Another way to increase your sales on Etsy is to really focus in on your target audience.

You can have a shop with thousands of unrelated products where you hope SEO works in your favor. This isn’t the best strategy though. Instead you want to nail down your target audience and focus in on that niche.

Focus in on what your target audience needs:

    • What does your audience really need?
    • What products would they want to buy together?
    • Who are they already purchasing from online?

Then you focus in on where your target audience is online:

    • Where do they hangout online?
    • Where do they research purchases?
    • How to they figure out what to buy?
    • Who do they listen to for advice in their niche?

When you go really deep into a niche and specific target audience you are going to make more sales. This is because understanding your audience allows you to create better products and sell them more easily.

    Research Top Selling Etsy Shops

One way to get more sales is to study what the people getting sales do. What are the top Etsy sellers doing? What are the shops with tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of sales doing?

While it’s great to learn from online educators, it’s even better to learn from the people actually succeeding.

Find a popular shop with lots of sales that is similar to you or in a niche that you can learn from.

Look at what they are doing with their shop. Do they have lots of listings? Do they use certain keyword phrases for SEO in their listings? Are their listing photos bright and eye-catching?

Make a list of all the things you see successful best-selling Etsy shops doing. Use this list to compare with your shop and find the areas where you are doing the wrong things. Don’t copy the other shop but use it as a benchmark to improve.

    Provide Amazing Customer Service

If you want to make more sales on Etsy then you need to provide amazing customer service.

Nothing else matters if the customers you do have hate the experience and rate you poorly.

Etsy has focused again and again on making sure customers are happy and well taken care of on the site. They emphasize excellent customer service from the beginning to the end of the sales experience.

Here are some ways to provide great customer service:

    • respond to messages quickly (within 24 hours)
    • communicate with buyers professionally and kindly
    • make sure listings are clear, specific, and descriptive
    • set reasonable timelines and expectations on delivery
    • resolve customer service issues quickly and fairly
    • build relationships with customers on Etsy and off

These are a few ways you can improve your Etsy customer service and make more sales.

    Keep Improving Your Etsy Shop

Too often I see Etsy sellers start and quit discouraged within a month because they haven’t achieved success quickly.

This is a mistake! For most Etsy sellers you need to put in more work and improve your shop through multiple methods over a longer period in order to succeed.

To increase your sales on Etsy you need to keep improving your Etsy shop. You’ll never stop truly because even the best shops continue to evolve and improve over time.

Keep the mindset of always improving your Etsy shop and you’ll get continue to grow and get more sales!
