Month: December 2019

  • November 2019 Online Income Report – $1,455.42

Welcome to my monthly online income report! And to the biggest income report so far! November 2019 was my best online income month yet!

Each month here on the blog I share what I earned from online endeavors like this personal finance blogmy YouTube channel, and my Etsy shop. I like sharing real numbers to inspire myself and others.

    online income report celebrate money

I know that earning more online income could stop me from working 45 hours each week so I’ve tried to squeeze as much work into online income generating activities as possible. Because I’m back to working full time hours for a season I’m unable to put more than a few hours each week into my online income activities, but the income this month has me hopeful that I can continue growing the income by being extremely helpful and reaching more people.

Growing my online income is so important to my current financial goals and that focus matters so much to my family right now! It also means that as my income grows, I’m helping more people.

Why Share An Online Income Report

I’m sharing my online income reports as a YouTuber (my main priority these days even though I started years ago as a blogger) to show people that it is possible to make money online. Lots of people want to know how much small youtubers make and if you can make money from a small YouTube channel.

I’m a small YouTuber that started just so I could share videos of my Alaska vacation, but it’s turned into so much more than that over the two years that I’ve been making videos on YouTube.

Once I realized I could also earn money with the videos, I decided to set a goal of making YouTube into a side hustle. My original goal with earning income on YouTube was to earn at least $600 dollars a month to help pay for the additional daycare expenses for my daughter.

Any amount of money would help our financial situation since we had increased expenses and I wanted to work less as well. Those two things don’t go together without added stress, so my plan was to increase my side hustle income!

I knew that earning money online was possible because I had done it once before as a blogger on a small scale and even though I’d let that income and blog life go, I had seen hundreds of others do the same and more by reading their online income reports. If people could earn tens of thousands a month online, surely I could earn $600 a month.

Income reports inspired me to try to work harder and do more while building my online income through my YouTube channel

While I’m not earning a full time income online currently, I am happy to show that I’ve grown my income to hit that original online income goal and I’ve been able to help a lot of people along the way. It’s amazing that we can earn money creating and sharing content online.

If you’re interested in past income reports, you can see all of them here:

Online Income Reports – Pennies Not Perfection

As you can see from past income reports, my online income in 2019 has been trending much higher than my income last year. The growth is not viral or explosive but it is moving up every single month.

I’m consistently earning $1,000 a month now when I was only earning $300-500 last year when I started tracking my online income. That might not seem huge since it’s small numbers but that means I have doubled my monthly online income!

It’s amazing to think that I have earned over $1,000 a month with Pennies Not Perfection and other online activities these past few months.

I like sharing these numbers to show small YouTubers what is possible with a channel that isn’t huge or growing by hundreds of thousands of subscribers in a year. While that would be amazing, it is possible to still earn income as a small channel.

Seeing these numbers in this format helps me to see the growth I’ve already had and inspires me to keep growing.

I plan to grow this blog/website around my channel as well and hopefully these income report numbers inspire anyone looking to grow from humble beginnings online.

    November 2019 Online Income Report

Here are the main income sources broken down by what I earned for the month of November. I’ve included referral links to each if you want to join too!

    • Advertising – $521.55
    • Affiliates – $798.99
    • Etsy Products – $134.88

    Total Income: $1,455.42

This is the amount earned in November 2019, before any fees, expenses, or taxes.

That means I don’t keep all of it it and at least 25% will be gone for taxes before it hits my bank account. I also won’t be paid all of it in the month it is earned since each source pays out at different times.

However, I must say with much excitement: I hit my goal two months in a row! I made $1,000 in a month! Again!

I hit the goal of earning $1,000 in a month from mostly YouTube generated activity which is insane and exciting and worth all the work that has gone into it. I’ve been making videos for over 2 years now and not a single one has gone viral, though people who’ve been inspired by my videos did in fact go viral with theirs. It just goes to show that continuing on until a video or to hits still equals a steady increase in income.

What I Worked On In November 2019

In November I worked on a few different priorities both growing income sources I already had and creating new ones.

    Made affiliate marketing improvements.

I continued with my implementation of tweaks I learned from taking the Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing course. I feel like this has helped me save a lot of time, even if this month’s affiliate income does not reflect it!

I added additional affiliate marketing programs for products to my list finally! I plan to keep my number of promoted affiliate partnerships to under 20 so that they are manageable and never something I haven’t used myself.

This month I added two investing platforms that I currently use for different purposes in our overall portfolio. Since I’m only adding affiliate partners that I love and use, this felt like a good extension since I’ve been wanting to talk about investing for a long time. I’ve been investing for over a decade now but I just never talk about it!

Adding new affiliate partners in the coming months and continuing to make tweaks on my existing ones should help increase the affiliate revenue. I’m very happy with the Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing course so far because it’s helped me focus into a better direction.

Added products to my Etsy shop.

I continued to add more products to my Etsy shop and I added several new ones and made even more sales. The amount of revenue is very similar to last month so I believe if I continue to add products that will grow the product sales revenue.

It also means that the $135 I earned last month was not a fluke! I wasn’t sure if I literally earned 10 times more last month as a fluke or if it meant my shop was finally taking off. Based on this repeat month, I think it means it was working! So for now I plan to keep going along with my strategy of creating and adding products! The more products I have the more opportunities I have to make a sale.

    November 2019 Online Income Wins

Time to celebrate some things that went right with online income in the month of November!

    Income over $1,000.

Like I’ve mentioned, my first goal with online income was to get to earning at least $600 a month to help pay for daycare and debt payments. More recently I challenged myself to start hitting $1,000 a month.

This month I feel like I sailed right past that $1k mark and really blew it out of the water with

This is the best side hustle. I love being able to earn online income through making videos, writing blog posts, recommending and creating products that help other people. This allows me to be creative, supportive, and encouraging. All the things I want to be in life.

    Affiliate marketing income over $500.

I’ve had a private goal to increase my affiliate marketing income to over $500 for a while now. I felt like providing useful content around this would ultimately get me to a place where I was earning more with my affiliate partners.

I love affiliate marketing because it’s such a great way to earn money but you are also providing value by connecting people to the products and services they need. You aren’t asking them for money or taking any from them – it all comes from a mission from the company!

    What I’m Working On Next

So what’s on tap for next month? I’ve got a few things planned:

Grow the products in my Etsy shop. I haven’t dedicated nearly enough time to my Etsy shop and the items in it but I want to create more items and also promote what is already there. I have a big goal of eventually getting to 50 items listed in 2019 so I’m hoping I can continue to add products and grow the amount of listing and sales.

Create more affiliate focused videos. I made a couple affiliate product focused videos and they did quite well for my channel based on the response and the income. After taking Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing I have so many ideas to implement and just need to find the time to do so. I’m planning to create more affiliate focused videos by focusing on single products and being super helpful in the content. I honestly never want to create anything that isn’t helpful to at least one person.

I also plan to participate in Vlogmas next month when December ad revenue is high and when affiliate marketing income is high as well. I’m hoping for another high income month!

  • How To Budget For Christmas

Christmas spending derails many budgets but with planning and organization you can have a debt free and stress free Christmas this year.

I love Christmas but in the past I had several that left me with a massive hangover from the anxiety and stress of spending too much on credit cards.

I wasn’t full able to enjoy the season because I fell into the trap of consumerism and debt. It’s been years since that has happened buy I remember the stress that ruined several holidays and never plan to make that mistake again.

Having a written plan and a budget is now crucial for me to enjoy the Christmas season. It saves me from stress and helps me get through the holidays debt free.

Preparing for Christmas early instead of waiting for December to roll around has eliminated stress and debt from our lives.

How To Budget & Save For Christmas

Today I’m going to share our process for having a debt free Christmas and the printables I’ve created based on my Christmas planning process to get through the holiday season debt free.

    Start Planning Early

The earlier you start planning for Christmas the more opportunities you have to cover all your bases and skip stressful last minute issues. We are starting our planning for Christmas right now in July and will start our actual Christmas savings plan next month in August.

    Set A Budget First

Big key to having a successful debt free Christmas is creating a holiday budget. Several months before Christmas you should think of an amount you’ll need to accomplish all the fun activities and gift purchases. Another way to do this is set a spending limit for each gift and write out a list of all the people you have to buy for and work from there.

Count out how many paychecks you have left til Christmas and set a goal amount of how much you will need to save per paycheck until Christmas.

    Start Saving Early

Making Christmas into a sinking fund and saving early makes a huge difference. I start saving earlier and earlier each year and each time I move it up it makes it easier.

If you start saving in January or even the week after Christmas then you have much more time and can contribute smaller amounts than if you start in October. This year we are planning to start our savings in August after our beach trip is over.

The sooner you start saving the easier it is to take advantage of other tips like buying special gifts on sale throughout the year, because you already have the money available.

Open a savings account just for the holidays. Open an account at Capital One 360 and you can get a bonus to use for the holidays to start your savings account. Then you can fund Christmas throughout the year each time you get paid or make extra money.

    Get Organized

This Christmas planning bundle I made is based off all my old lists in my past planners. When thinking about planning ahead for Christmas I went back and looked at all the things I’ve created in my planner the last few years that we’ve had debt free Christmases. It helps so much to write everything down so you can plan out a budget for everything.

    how to save for christmas

This is important for us because we always have a lot of people to buy gifts for at Christmas. I write down everyone’s name and then decide how much we want to spend on that person.  Writing everyone down and giving them a gift budget helps keep us organized and make sure we don’t overspend or forget anyone.

I haven’t bought new decorations or wrapping supplies for a couple years now because I purchased a ton at 90% off one year after Christmas. This means my gift budget is larger than some people’s but my decor budget is really small. But having all the expenses planned out helps make sure it is all accounted for.

One last thing I’d recommend is keeping track of the gifts you’ve bought for each person! I know some people who get so into buying things that they have given the wrong gifts to people because they didn’t stay organized or on budget.

    Cut Your Christmas Budget

There are several ways to cut your gift budget in half.

    • Do a gift exchange with family where you draw names and only buy a gift for one person.
    • Look for great gifts throughout the year in clearance sections to score big savings.
    • Remember that not everyone needs or wants a gift so cut our gift giving where you can.
    • Use ebates if you shop online so you’ll get money back for things you are buying anyway.
    • Get creative and make gifts for people on your list. There are tons of easy things to make like homemade soaps, bath bombs, etc.
    • If you have a big group of people, make something in bulk that you can then split up. You can make a huge batch of cookies and deliver it in a cute Dollar Tree bin for example.

Christmas Is About More Than Gifts

When you are writing out your holiday budget remember that the season is more than just Christmas gifts.

Remember that what really matters is spending time with the people that you love.

The ultimate goal is to get through the holidays debt free, skip the stress and spend your time with your loved ones.
